Very bad perfromance in menu/loading ...
Hi,
I am running "Orcs Must Die 2" via Steam. I have very bad performance in the menu/loading a map.
- The game start takes 1 minute 16 seconds (the video starts after 50 seconds)!
- It takes around 25-30 seconds after clicking "Play" to come to the campain menu.
- It takes around 15-20 seconds to go back from the campain menu to the title screen.
- Also loading/restarting a map takes a lot of time.
During the time consuming actions the HDD is more or less doing nothing and the CPU usage is at 0%.
Here my set up:
- Intel i5-2500k @3.30 GHz
- 16 GB RAM
- AMD Radeon HD 6800 2GB RAM (driver version 2012.0928.1532.26058)
- Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Steam is running on a HDD (Western Digital Black Caviar)
The OS is running on a Samsung SSD.
I already tried the following in order to solve this issue (without success):
- defragmentation of the hdd
- re-installation of the display driver
- re-installation of the game
Thanks in advance :)
Best regards
QStorm
Yes, during gameplay it's running well.
However, navigating in the menu and loading a game are very very slow. :(
Hi again,
Does anyone have a solution (maybe the robot support team)?
Thanks in advance :)

Have you tried using the ForceFPS option in a user.cfg file to cap out your frames per second?
Instructions are here:
http://support.robotentertainment.com/customer/portal/articles/674872-how-do-i-create-a-user-cfg-file-for-orcs-must-die-2-
Sometimes machines go nuts on menus and the FPS flies up into the hundreds. Capping it may help.
I just set "ForceFPS" to 60. Its still the same bad performance.
Thanks for the help.
2) I changed the settings without any effect to the performane.
3) I couldn't find this option in the "Catalyst Control Panel". After searching in the internet I just found the AMD "Power Play" feature witch is available on notebooks only to improve the battery livetime.
I'm having exactly the same problem: very slow initial loading, then long delay when I click play and long delay to choose character and start the level. Once in the level it's fast and normal.
I really loved OMD1 and it would be a shame to have to get a refund on OMD2 :-(
OMD 1 menus worked fine, although the initial load was very slow. My machine spec is easily enough to run the game (i5, gtx 560ti, 8gb ram) and runs all other games without issues.
There is obviously something broken with OMD2.
I've tried the following solutions:
ForceFPS setting in the user.cfg file
Reinstall NVidia drivers
Reinstall PhysX drivers
Change power management settings (as suggested in this thread)
Reboot PC
Uninstall and reinstall OMD2
Install OMD2 demo (suffers from same problem)
Run vcredist from the OMD2 installer dir
Disabled the internal graphics on my motherboard
Uninstalled other display devices (vnc, logmein).
None of these worked - it is exactly the same. Any more solutions?
TIA
I have pretty much the same issue as everyone else here. Tried updating gfx drivers, ran both .exe's, de- and re-installed, turned off my anti-virus. Nothing seems to help. This is the only game that I've ever had this issue with, and that list includes OMD1. Running off of Steam.
I have the same problem. Very long delays for loading. At game start. At "press space to continue". After pressing "play". Game runs great while I'm actually in a level. I have a lot of games and this is the only one with the issue.
Windows is updated.
Nvidia is updated with version 306.97.
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68
System HD: 120GB SSD
Data HD: 1.5TB Western Digital , where steam and orcsmustdie2 is.
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 560Ti GTX
I've tried many of the attempted fixes here with out sucess. Reinstalling. Verifitying integrity. xp sp3 compatibility. admin mode. Nothing fixes it.
I use two monitors if that matters.
Same problem here. Very long delays in the menu. Bought game via steam.
- Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333)
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
- 8 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Driver Version: 9.18.13.1064)
- SAMSUNG SSD 830 (OS+Steam)
I dont know why these devs keep throwing that user.cfg crap tbh, it just doesnt work. Might as well tell us to stand on one leg while doing that, because its so pathetic, its comical.
My game runs silky smooth at all times. But in menus, specially in the spellbook, it just lags like hell. It actually made me stop playing the game entirely, its that annoying.
Is it too much to ask that the devs act like the professionals they are and fix this? I was going to get the first game to unlock classic mode, but this with this situation why bother, its just a source of frustration for me.
May I just check.....is this similar to what any of you are experiencing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4eKwFbZ8Fc
I have been in touch with Robot Entertainment Support since July, and I am getting nowhere!
I received an email from them yesterday saying ... "So you’re having performance problems in the menus correct? Could you get a free version of fraps, would be great to use the frame rate counter to see when things are slow in the menus what that number is."
But..... I have already sent them a video (months ago), similar to the one above but without the FPS.... which clearly shows that the problem isn't FPS related!
So i thought.... may aswell make another video with the "Frames Per Second" - Totally pointless in my case as the damn game is constantly hanging and when it does, so does the FPS!
In that video it takes:
1.35mins to get to Menu (45 seconds to get to "Robot" splash screen)
15 seconds to load Characters
25 seconds to create a Character
20 seconds to get to Campaign Menu
15 seconds to get to Level Loading page
10 seconds after pressing Spacebar to start level
WHY !?
I can load Battlefield 3 in about 20 seconds!
This is ridiculous :/
If what the Devs give you doesnt work, defragment your hard drive.
Similar problem on my machine.
Been trying a bunch of things over the last couple of days to no success.
Now for something that might help. Trying a suggestion from the other thread where people are having trouble launching the game, I've just discovered that unplugging the USB mouse before launching the game fixes the initial slow loading time. However, plugging it back on will bring the slow loading on the menus.
Yes, good news, for me it was definitely the mouse, tried with another one and it worked fine.
For another user on the steam forums it was the keyboard, he unplugged the keyboard and the game loaded fine. He was using windows drivers, and after installing the keyboard brand drivers things work ok.
I hope this bit of information can help some of you.
Thats interesting. Thanks for letting us know alienado - we can now advise other posters :)
Same problem, but unplugging the mouse and keyboard doesn't work. (For mouse, tried loading game without mouse connected, and for keyboard, tried unplugging it immediately after hitting "Play" in Steam.)
Unplugging other USB devices worked for me. Not sure which one was the problem. At first just unplugged my Rocksmith cable, Logitech Bluetooth Dongle, and Logitech wireless keyboard dongle but that didn't work. Then I tried just pulling every usb device EXCEPT my primary USB keyboard and mouse (both are super generic - keyboard is Dell, mouse is Kensington). That fixed it.
AMAZING!! This finally solved it! I went through my USB devices one by one and it turned out to be the Apple 30" monitor - it has a USB hub on it. Unplugging this immediately caused OMD2 to load straight up and the menus work perfectly!
After several months trying to get this fixed with support and more than one windows reinstall, I can finally play this damn game! :-)
So apparently there's a driver conflict in there somewhere that's telling hte game that those other USB devices are controllers. I'm glad you guys got this working now, and sorry the fix wasn't immediately apparent.
Another possible fix....
If anyone is still having problems with this, I've just discovered how to speed mine up.
When my desktop is set to it's native resolution of 1920x1200 it runs painfully slow.
If I set it to 1680x1050 it loads up instantly and the menu is super fast
So very very weird!

Does it run well during gameplay though?
