Unable to connect to other players - ...
A friend and I have been trying everything we can think of to connect together in game. We both have the most updated version, and we can even connect in other steam games so her router is likely forwarding the right ports. Whenever she tries to connect to my invitation though it just times out and goes "Lost connection: you have been disconnected from the game. Please reform and try again".
What should we do to fix this? Is this a bug?
I've checked with a few of my other friends and no one can connect together. This is definitely not a router problem.
What kind of connections are you on? What region are you located in? The more information you can give us about the big picture, the better.
Me and my friend have been unable to connect to eachothers game through steam. We have the same results no matter who hosts. The person hosting will get a screen that indefinitely waits for the other person to join and the person who tries to join waits and their window eventually disappears.
We are trying to play through steam over an internet connection.
I am in Canada, BC, in Burnaby.
My friends all range from Seattle to Australia.
I have a high-speed connection with Telus, 25mbps.
When I go to invite a player to a game, my screen will sit forever at the "waiting for other players", while their screen goes for a couple seconds as though it is connecting before bringing up the message "Lost connection: you have been disconnected from the game. Please reform and try again".
It worked about a month ago the last time I was able to get someone to play with me, and this time it doesn't. I tried to connect with both versions up to date, with no DLC, and I tried to connect with the Fire and Water DLC installed. The same results happened each time.
I remember at one point I was able to click on the "Join Game" option from inside steam if I didn't have the game launched, but now that option is greyed out, even if we are both running the game, or only one of us is.
All of my other steam games are able to connect to other players, and I have no hiccups in my downloading so nothing is blocking anything.
Yay everything works now!
Okay, that's particularly odd since we didn't CHANGE anything.
I'm wondering if somehow your IP block was caught up in a block of suspended ones. We've seen this before, particularly wtih European players. Someone, somewhere is using a certain IP or IP range to do things like hacking or whatever, and an ISP will shut down a whole block of IPs to stop the bad traffic for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. This actually blocked out some Hero Academy players a couple times in the past.
It happened right after a steam update. A few people suggested it might have been a steam issue, but I have no idea if that would be true or not :S
The same issue. When trying to connect - error "U have been disconnected from the game. Please reform and try again."
Windows XP. Firewall off. Antivirus Avast - off too. 2 computers on one router. Version 1.0.0.349.
Didn't find the solution. Please help with this error or give link to solution.
Thanks
I have the same issue as the topic reads/all I see is connecting... until it disappears. A friend of mine and I purchased the game to play co-op together and it is unfortunate that this issue is still around as it would seem co-op is definitely the way to play. If anyone has any solution please let me know as googling and reading through these forums have left me with no real answer.
Having the exact same problem as the TS. Bought the gift pack so me and my buddy could play it and we cannot connect to each other. Can play any other game perfectly fine.
EDIT: Nevermind my buddy hadnt done a steam update works fine now.

It definitely could be. We connect to the Steam servers for parts of the game, and if they're ever having issues with the servers - like during a big game launch, during a major sale, or after an update like you mentioned - there could be odd connection issues that are out of our control.

What other info do you have for me about what you've tried? There are a handful of possible issues that could prevent things. As noted above, make sure eveyrone's on the same versions of everything (steam and the game), make sure everyone's done all their file cache verification, make sure you're not listed as "offline" on your Steam friends list. There are several issues that could cause connection problems that are completely outside the purview of the game itself. The biggest thing that will cause the game itself to just not connect is having an actual bad connection. The rest we have to try to trouble-shoot around several possibilities for.
Keep in mind as I say this, that my issues were not quite the same as some that I have read above. The most important of which is that I was able to play just fine up until today. However, starting today I constantly had the "reform" error, despite forwarding the port range and doing various other checks.
However, after reading the last post in this thread, I decided to do the "verify local game cache" on both my computer and the person I was playing with. Both of us had one file that did not verify and was redownloaded. After this, we were able to connect with no problem.
While this may not fix everyone's issue, it DID fix my issue and everyone should at least try it.
I'm having the same issue as listed above, my friend and I have the same version of Steam, same DLC, same game version, and verified cache. Any ideas?
I am having this issue as well. Played the game for the first time last night (evening of 2/4/2013) with a friend of mine: absolutely no issues.
We met back up this evening to resume, and started having this problem (invites are sent and accepted, host end says "Waiting for player", other end shows "Connecting", and then sometimes the joining players connection dialogue just goes away, and sometimes it gives the "reform" error). We verified our game caches, checked our versions, made sure Steam was up-to-date, etc. No dice.
We got another friend on to try, and he could not play with me, but he could connect to her. So I went further; I verified port forwarding on my router, verified that my static IP had not changed away from where it should be for said port forwarding to function, I did a soft restart, I did a full restart.
Steam reports me and my friends as online.
I had an excellent time playing last night, and was looking forward to playing again all day today. This is incredibly disappointing, and frustrating.
BTW: For "Verify Local Game Cache", I did it 2-3 times, and every single time it identified that one file was in need of updating/refreshing, and then it shows in the Steam Download page 0KB/0KB "Ready". I suspect that it will find 1 file every time, no matter what, and that it probably isn't what fixed your issue.
Just as a follow-up, my friend and I tried again yesterday evening, and it worked the first time. No change to configuration, internet connection, or otherwise.
It would be nice if the system handled whatever variety of problems can cause this failure more gracefully (consistently giving an error instead of just hanging indefinitely for the host, and sometimes showing an error to the client). And beyond that, if there are 5 different explanations for what could be going on, it seems like more helpful diagnostic output from the software itself would be key. I know that some things are outside the layer of the stack that the game can see, but it doesn't even seem to be trying to help in its current state.
UP
Problem still not fixed.
Can you make a simple TCP/IP or IPX conection?

Same here. Quite sure this is a bug .. All my other games work perfectly :-\
