The Tower - 60M - New killbox !
So... been working on The Tower for the past week, and I believe I finally got it. :)
Here's the strategy.
Insane score, and actually pretty solid for 5-skulling too.
Oh, and it works for the bromage too ! ;)
You just can't leave Wyatan alone for one week without him inventing a complete new insane setup xo
Well apparently I didn't had the same idea, but it might still serve to fix some broken stages for co-op...
You are the most creative player in OMD2 for sure *bows down so low I hit my head and die a slow painful death*
The only thing I'm useful apparently is tweeking setups, but I don't think that's possible at all here.
Just awesome! : D Can't wait for some serious co-op : 3
I think as you say the stone staff might be a big help here.. have you tried it with this set up yet? You could probably get by that russian wave that you got over run on with the staff.
Also, why do you put the grinders slightly off the ground.. I see a lot of people doing it.. but not understanding why.. spesh when you say having them high is one of teh reasons so many russians got though.
Just a question, why do you use the "dailymotion" instead of youtube?
yeah tottaly... youtube owns.

Completely awesome strat Wyatan. As Cheetah mentioned above, your creativity with some of these strategys are just fantastic!
The grinders that are half a square off the ground are filters. This allows the little combo generating orcs through but hits the bigger mobs.
Awesome job! Well done! I did 20M or so last week with this strategy myself, but I went without the grinder, meaning I had to use bleed on the spike wall, and used the crossbow for stun. It gave very consistent combo numbers, but 11 and 12's only. Also mana was a big issue, though I mostly managed with void wall potions.
I'm curious to know how you put the slow/snare combo with the bromage. I tried using alchemist satchel but I found it didn't always break in time from the scorchers, and managing to fit three weapons hit (windbelt, crossbow and satchel) within one push was a lot to handle. You can put spikes under the push but the reset time is not the same as the spike wall, and then you can't use tar.
Ugh endless... this one is all you mate. Nice work. Tidy strat. Good to see my initial prediction of spike wall changing the game coming true. I havent had a lot of luck with the trap variations I'm trying... maybe I'm rusty. Keep up the work.
Thanks guys. :)
Just a question, why do you use the "dailymotion" instead of youtube?
Well, basically four reasons :
1) Parochial move : I'm French, DailyMotion is French. Help the local economy and all that stuff. ;)
2) Google already has a nearly monopoly on access to contents, no need to help them extend that monopoly to contents itself.
3) Google is under US law. Taking a stand against that DCMA nonsense.
4) "Wyatan" is not an available Google account name. (Although it might be mine since I remember creating a Google account a few years back to test one of their apps for my job. But if it's not mine, and the guy owing it used a dummy secondary mail, resetting the password may end up nuking a poor sod's GMail account, which I'm reluctant to do.)
Now, yup this has drawbacks :
- Smaller audience.
- Can't insert chapters in videos.
- And mainly that whole "Publishing in progress" BS which pisses me off and means I have to wait for hours, and even once days, before the video is actually available after being uploaded.
I think as you say the stone staff might be a big help here.. have you tried it with this set up yet? You could probably get by that russian wave that you got over run on with the staff.
The stone staff is good for comboing, but my experience is that the vampire gloves are better (comes from the fact they have a small AoE, which is better than pierce when shooting sideways, and they attack faster). Also, the secondary means you can get self-sufficent for some time, while with the Stone Staff, if you're OOM with no potion available, you're in trouble. Last, Vampire Gloves scale : whatever the hitpoints of a monster, lock it for 30 seconds and it's dead. Works the same wave 1 or wave 200, while good luck killing anything with the Stone Staff in the later waves.
Now, where the Stone Staff is better, is when you get overrun indeed. And disposing of straggler heavies is a lot less time-consuming and boring. :)
But in this particular case (wave 45), I did with the bromage what I suggested in the video, ie make a stand at the first Void Wall : throwing every small mobs into the wall with the windbelt, and locking down the rest with the Vampire Gloves with the Spike Wall was on reset, and it worked like a charm. Completely wasted wave score-wise, but got through without losing a single rift point.
Now, when playing coop, you usually have both the Vampire Gauntlets and the Stone Staff, so it becomes a moot point. :)
Also, why do you put the grinders slightly off the ground.. I see a lot of people doing it.. but not understanding why.. spesh when you say having them high is one of teh reasons so many russians got though.
As Juicebags said, the killbox cannot process heavy monsters (the spring trap don't have that unique upgrade). So you have two options : kill them before they get there, or let them through and kill them after. The first option is obviously far better, and that's what raising the traps half a tile achieves : they only target big mobs. That's why we call that a "filter". :)

The grinder is indeed really what's making it fall into place (and unfortunately makes it hardly transferable). I had nice attempts without it, but nothing that could beat the "standard" killbox.
Out of the usual weapons, the crossbow is by far the worst at applying its own combo point, which makes it for me, like the Jar of Ghosts, a fallback option only, when there's no other working choice.
I'm curious to know how you put the slow/snare combo with the bromage.
I didn't. :)
As I say in the video, the weak spot is the web spinner : I'd say that on average less than half the mobs that get processed by the killbox are webbed. The Bromage killbox replaces the acid sprayers with web spinners so doesn't suffer from the same issue. And Tar means less windbelt pushes required, so less damage, and better combos in the early waves. It also means I can try the windbelt grab trick once per push, as opposed to a coupla times per wave.
So basically trading away one combo point for all-round consistency.
Now, had I reached the same wave with the sorc, I believe the score would have been in the 70M range instead. By that's still only about a 10% difference, when usually sorc scores utterly crush bromage scores.
Original post was asking about bromage but after re-reading the above i see you replace the acid sprayer and web spinner with tar. That still free's up a slot. Could you now use the fear trinket as you would need less mana for the windbelt?
Floor spikes are the only true alternative to acid sprayer to add snare effect. Its unfortuante and it causes many problems but it is the 'only' real option outside of managing to work in Satchel.
I'd like to see spike wall get snare instead of bleed.

No, no.
I used both Web Spinners and Tar.
Web Spinners took the place of Acid Sprayers in the killbox layout, ensuring every orc that got into the killbox was webbed, which wasn't the case with the Sorceress setup.
And obviously, I had Tar along the Spike Wall and and on the tiles between the Spike Wall and the killbox.
I'd like to see spike wall get snare instead of bleed.
Not sure about the Spike Wall (it may allow getting rid of the Grinder in some setups), but yeah, the Bromage definitely needs another option for applying Slow.
As I've said on other occasions, I would go for a ceiling trap. To try and promote different setups.

Great score, and you show to people how you do it (unlike some other people who hide their strategies). Great move!
Its the first your video i watched. Have learned alot of comboscience. And your video doesnt bored me(unlike to most gameplay videos i watched)
Great work!
