Tournament Signup
So, what will the format for this tournament be? Pools? Double elimination? Single elimination? Will you be seeding at all based on current League ranking?
It'll be single elimination bracket style, there's a bit more info on the original post. I'll think about taking league rankings into consideration, but I'm not sure yet. There definitely won't be bad matchups such as a 15-0 player facing a 0-27 player in the first round. Semi-finals/finals might be best two out of three or something to take out the luck factor, but that's undecided.
I could still use help contacting participants of the tournament once it has an official date. Also if someone has skills in excel or something, a visual representation of the tournament would help as well. I have a 64 player bracket template in excel, but I'm not very skilled at working with it or transforming the worksheet into a picture that can be posted on the forums.
I hear you on #1 not playing #64 in round 1, I'm not sure its a bad thing, its done in tennis, chess and many other endeavors. That said, there is another way to seed that is sometimes done too that you might prefer. Namely, 1 plays 33, 2 plays 34, 3 plays 35, that sort of thing. I think that works out pretty well.
We have 7 spots left for the tournament. Listen up everyone, if you're one of the next 6 people to signup, you are guaranteed entry into the tournament. You can count for yourself (all official signups must be posted in this thread, so count the number after this post).
If you're not one of those six, then still post saying that you'd like to gain entry. I'll PM the first two people to post this, and you will have to have a match against each other. The winner will be allowed into the tournament.
@Art, I don't think that some of the players will have completed league games by then (I'll be creating the matchups this weekend), so it'd be difficult to seed. Since it'll be after the update and will include many new players, I think I'll just "randomly" match everyone and let them establish their skill level themselves in the tournament. I'll likely do it according to time zone/moves playable a day as best as possible in the hope of getting the rounds finished faster.
Sure sign me up. I'm from South Africa so timing might be an issue, GMT+2 here but I play everday
DWARVES ANNOUNCED! The update will be a week from today, so the tournament will begin exactly two weeks from today! Mark your calender, and after all the spots are filled I'll send out messages and update this thread with more info =]

We're at 60 signups. 3 more entries, then the next two after that will fight for the right to enter :)
I'm guessing the first tournament will be about done by the time this one starts?
I'm tempted to sign-up, but it might be a bit time consuming to be battling it out in round 3 of the first tournament while having to start this tournament. Hmmm....
Whatever, sign me up if there is still room!
I'm at Pacific Standard Time.
I'd like to join in, please.

I'm going through the list right now and I've seen a few double signups (same users posting twice) >.> I'll have the matchups done by this weekend, and I'll make an official list of participants right now so that I can more easily keep track of the number. Will post the new (correct) number of signups once I'm done.
Save the last spot for ArtNJ! I'm sure he's changed his mind and now wants to join!
I'd love to join, if there's still room!

There are a few more spots than I thought available due to double posts, so try to convince him if you'd like :) I'd love to see as many league admins as possible in the tourney, so I'll save him a spot until I know, but I'm not sure that he's changed his mind.
i'm game! sign me up!

Only one spot remains! Please check the original post, it has been updated.
The next two people to post asking for entry in this thread will have a match to decide who will be granted the last spot. Do not actually begin the match however, I will PM you both with rules.
Thanks to everyone that signed up, and please check this thread (original post) often to keep up with updates on the tournament. It will begin on February 29th (two weeks from today).
I'll join the tournament put me in!
I'll sign up! Username is the same and I am EST.
Krono and Arkais, I'll send both of you details about the match in a PM, as soon as it's done I'll post the winner in this thread and update the list on the original post to include the winner.
If it isn't clear, this also means that I'm no longer taking anymore signups. Keep informed about this tournament, and if it goes well I'll be hosting more in the future :]
If the first tournament gets pushed back, I might drop this one only because I don't think I could handle two tournaments at once. I'm still waiting to hear what is going to happen.
If anyone drops out before the first round or during the first round, I'll mention it in the forums and get a replacement. However if anyone drops out in any later rounds, their opponent will just get the win (so that a replacement wouldn't get to skip the first few rounds).
But Narziss, you should stay no matter what, work towards that T-Shirt and iTunes card ;) if you'd like I can match you with an opponent in the first round that is active enough to fit whatever schedule would work for you.
I'm keen. Australian eastern daylight savings time.
If there's still a slot open I'll play. 8-11pm EST is when I'm most active.
No more room right now guys, but I'll keep you in mind as reserves if someone drops out
Id love to play next time a slot or Tournament opens up

I honestly think 2 weeks per round is better than 1 week. 7 days is a bit extreme. 10 days is borderline. 14 days is sufficient.

I'll see how it works out the first week. It'll already be 6 weeks long, that's a long time for people to hold there attention on a mobile game. I know most people will see it through, but the longer it takes the higher the chance of drop outs. I've also never had a match take longer than a week, even with just 2-3 moves a day.
For some reason I don't see an option to edit my post? Odd.
Anyway, if you're a day from finishing, then we'll give a little extra time, but 10 to 14 days is a long time per round. It'd take 3 months to finish, and since many people that play apps also delete them after a few weeks, I don't want to be losing people in the 3rd/4th round because it's taking too long. But I'll see how it works out. If it's a huge problem then I'll extend deadlines a bit, but it should work out fine.
I'll be making the detailed list of rules and match ups tomorrow (probably during the night). If anyone has ideas on rules you think I should add, message me and let me know. I'll most likely have each round last 10 days, and each player will be required to make at least 3 moves per day. This means that by the end of the 10 days, you'll be at least on round 60, and if you add a few extra moves here and there you'll definitely have time to finish.
