Theory Crafting 2.0 - Theory Only [c ...
I can possibly answer this.
Wyatan has actually managed to achieve what I was actually attempting. First I need some things confirmed. I assume of course my latest Scorcher theory has been put to use with using the no extended upgrades on the scorcher, only base damage upgrades if any at all.
What this causes is a kind of 'limbo' event as best as I can call it. You see the burn itself lasts 2 seconds. The COMBO point seems to last for 3 seconds. While extended burn and extend radius is active the burn seems to last longer and enforce this effect to never happen. However without upgrades (I did not want to add this to the theory before I could confirm it) it may be possible to have the overlap of the fire and ice.
A couple of things lead me to this conclusion; for this to work the combo has to fulfill certain instances.
- it must occur very low in the tower of grinders to prevent the loss of the fire combo point
- the spring trap must register on the target which means the orc must land on the spring trap and be passed on into the chill vent
- the target must move through the arc of the scorcher and no longer be in it (this is achieved by passing through the scorcher area into the spring)
- the scorcher must trigger very early on an orc that lands in the scorcher radius while the targeted orc passes through the scorcher radius
Now this is extremely hard to test and I've been trying to make it happen for a while. But I wasn't going to share it because i thought it was very much a pipe dream. Something akin to fishing with dynamite and trying to catch a living fish after it flys out of the water.
To see this happen is mind boggling. Here is what I think is happening; please understand that this is vague theory and this is not to be taken as the absolute truth. In this situation I am only going on what I believe and I have no proof.
Orc #1 and Orc #2 will be in play during this explanation. We assume both are to be launched by windbelt into push trap which throws them across to the kill box. I have brought it up many times before that Spinnarette can slightly change trajectory and cause a bounce in flying orcs which makes them fly further or shorter and only occurs on the orc that triggers the trap.
Warning Complex Theory Ahead:
- Orc #1 and #2 catch the windbelt push trap combo giving us x3
- Orc #1 reaches the spinarette first getting a push down effect slightly changing its trajectory Orc #2 gets the bounce effect for passing through. Both are at x4
- Orc #1 lands first landing in the scorcher trap triggering the scorcher by itself getting x6 while Orc #2 passes through the scorcher burns picking up another x2 as well; however exiting the radius starting the burn count faster than Orc #1 because it left the scorcher radius. Orc #2 also is at x6 however it has already started its burn count of 1 second. The orc in the scorcher has not.
- Orc #1 triggers the acid trap as Orc #2 passes through adding another x2 combo to both orcs taking our friends to x8,
- Orc #1 trigers the steam trap getting x1 because it is still burning and begins its journey upwards carrying x9 from the steam trap. Ignoring the chill from the steam trap.
- Orc #2 is now in a limbo state as the spring trap has just triggered adding another combo point giving x9 however it has not yet touched steam or chill. The burn has registered already and is almost over. Our friend is launched towards the kill combo.
- Orc #1 eats blood gauntlets for x10 and then eats the grinder blood and grind combo giving Orc #1 x12 combo.
- Orc #2 now gets tricky, it has been burned but the burn has ended carrying briefly its combo. In a mystical event the orc catches the blood gauntlet for x10 combo. It then catches the updraft from the steam for x11 and in a crazy world where my theories are correct. The fire has worn off but the combo point lasts briefly past the burning of the fire. This means that the chill is applied. We now have a mystical fire chill x2 combo scenario. Which puts us at a whopping x12 which then catches the grinder bleed and grind giving a bone crushing x14 combo in a scenario that is impossible.
The x13 combo is intended design with some orcs landing on the spring trap and being launched into the cycle adding the extra x1 combo point that would be needed to turn Orc #1 into a x13 combo point instead of an x12. To prevent confusion. This is how the trap setup is supposed to work by design. The anomoly of x14 is a suprising and gratifying side effect that I thought was impossible or at best idiotically unlikely. The reason we never saw this before is because of the scorcher upgrades. Extended Burn and Wider Arc both prevent this from happening because orcs continue to get the burn applied for extended periods of time.
For the complex scorcher theory read:

This is my current theory and is open to discussion. Please question it, poke at it, crush it as best you can but do not dismiss any theory in this thread from anyone until it has been completely discounted in some way.
- Wall lamps add combo (Wyatan's theory)
- Hitting the ceiling get's an extra combo
- Aura from the exit adds combo point (bonus for being so risky)
- Water elementals hitting orcs in windbelt pile add a ragdoll combo
- Getting hit by a mine cart and surviving, keeps the combo point forever
Of these I would say the only real possibilities would be the ceiling hit or the mine cart keeping the combo forever.
Is it possible that burn and chill have been changed again as well? Perhaps they are doing some weird stacking depending on when they are applied?

I will put as much money as you want on the fact that it is due to unupgraded scorchers. I forgot to add for those that don't understand why Wyatan has stopped usint scorcher upgrades the information is in this thread:

Of course this can be debunked by upgrading scorcher and getting x14 anyway. Or confirmed in that it never reaches over 13 while upgrades are active.
I suggest moving the discussion to this thread, and then reporting back the solution (if we ever figure it out) here.

I would think the wind belt primary and secondary would only count as one combo point, though I haven't done a controlled test.
