Stone Staff Macro
Hello this is actually my first post on the Orcs forums. I'm an avid Orcs player and recently started watching the forums some since I'm so into it. I like the vids that Fryedegg and Nananea do on youtube and have picked up many useful tips there. One I recently heard Nananea mention in the first Yetis DLC map is that she has a Macro for the Stone Staff. If you happen to see this Nana could you please mention how that is setup so that we could maybe use it as well. I love that Stone Staff, such a great weapon but if playing Orcs awhile it literally hurts to use it so i unfortunately have to go with crossbow more than I'd like to. RSI is painful and not really worth it imo. What setup do you use to keep that thing firing. I'd love to be able to use it more but cant so much with as many clicks as it takes currently. A couple rounds no problem, but a couple hours, no thanks. If anyone here knows of a good way to get autofire on it please let me and the rest of us know. I was thinking maybe you were using autohotkey or something. Is this close?
Yes I have a Razer Naga set to auto Left Click repeatedly while I hold a mouse button down.
The link that Rogotin posted will work well for you if you don't have programmable hardware.
I too couldn't handle the constant spam to make this weapon fantastic, and that's why I went with macro. Now I can't play without it.
O.K. Thanks guys and Nana :) for the info. Ill get that script going and can once again start using that staff more. Also I recently saw something here from FryedEgg about adding people from the forums. I'm always online on Steam and usually wanting to play more Orcs lol so if anyone here wants to they can add me for some co op. My Steam profile link is http://steamcommunity.com/id/torrentfiend/
isn't this cheating? Like the robot guys made it click ot cast to purposfully handicap it. Not that i mind cheating, it is your game play as you want.. but it IS cheating.
I'd say it's a gray area....for me at least. My hardware allows such a thing so I'm not going out of my way to hack the actual game to give the staff this function.
The auto-hotkey script is a cheat imo. Lots of games ban for using those. I've never heard of a game banning due to mouse or keyboard macros though.
I'll stop using the AHK script when Robot patches the weapons to work sensibly. I'm not fond of hand cramps.

The ONLY difference between what you do and what I do is that your hardware comes with it as an advertised feature.
Yes, you're right. It's a feature that I spent $70.00 to have on my hardware.
Does that make it not a cheat? Not really, but it's also not a purely software solution. It's technically not different but it FEELS different. I bought a gaming mouse for an advantage in gaming, you know?

HAX HAX HAX!!!!! BAN HER NOW!

LOL I agree that Im not fond of hand cramps either and because of all the clicking needed to actually use these weapons and due to the fact that the crossbow already has it Im gonna use it. Without it it hurts a lot when doing a long Orc session. Especially the endless ones. Theres always gonna be those that claim its cheating and that debate can go round in circles with everyone set in their view only. But weather its built into the hardware or the script doing it the same exact thing is being achieved. In this kind of game that many clicks shouldnt be needed imo. If it is the way its set then players physically hurt as a result.

This is actually not quite correct. As most people know inputs from external devices are human input converted to numerical outputs for the computer (ascii for the keyboard for instance). The hardware paid versions (which I have also) have hardware macro's that allow buttons to be pushed for you. Autohotkey does something extremely similar. It feeds into the keyboard buffer for the computer; the same thing this macro does. Which is for the most part identical.
Autohotkey functions that manipulate packets directly however will be banned by most games. As will any software programs that interact directly with the information flow. Autohotkey (mostly) can not be detected if it is used for keyboard inputs as it is considered an exterenal input device. World of Warcraft is a prime example of Autohotkey being legal when used properly. While 5 boxing many people use (blizzard has stated officially that this is acceptable) programs like autohotkey to input the one keyboard into 5 different instances simultaneously.
Not to be confused with software programs that take control of your character and recieves inputs and automates functions on reaction. A definite no-no.
Edit:
There are massive advantages to hardware accelerated macro's before anyone decides to not buy a programmable. Hardware has buffer controls for keyboard inputs and will allow you to run macros while doing other things (like typing or character movement) while the macro functions. Autohotkey has software limitations hardware does not. My keyboard has Anti-Ghosting allowing me to enter 150+ keys at any one time without a buffer overflow. (you know, like when you hold down 5 keys and you get that horrible beeping noise).
And there are always idiots with Autohotkey that write pixel recognition on colour and shape and attempt to automate their characters in this way acting as if there's a real player at the keyboard. Don't do this - it defeats the purpose of the game.
Also this can be modified to give the weapon a maximum speed output; something much higher than an average person can click but not so high as to be considered cheating. I suspect Vampire Gauntlets has similar properties already.
I'd like to voice my opinion on the "cheating" part, just to add another nuance and my perspective.
I practice the classical guitar ambitiously, which means my fingers get used a lot. And by that I mean playing pieces like Recuerdos de la Alhambra and Ultima Cancion where I play a semi-quaver tremolo in ~130 BPM - That's about 18 strokes a second for my right hand, the mouseclicking one. I practice for about 5-6 hours a day depending on current repertoire before resorting to some well earned gaming.
I really, really enjoy OMD 1 and 2, they're pearls in the gaming world. But it has come to that I can't play endless anymore because carpal syndrome is chronic and effectively ends the career of a musician, and that scares me. I don't think my outset is unique in any way, I actually believe that Robot Entertainment should consider the fact that many of us use our fingers a lot daily, and the current weapon design is demanding a lot.
My opinion is that autofire is a convenience, not an advantage. And if autofire is readily available that may just make people have another try at that map to get a highscore, instead of being distracted by an aching wrist.
"My opinion is that autofire is a convenience, not an advantage."
I agreed. Anyone can fire it as fast as the macro by hand, But using the script is just easier, and for my case, much, much quieter. And anyone should want to take care of their wrist, and its an interesting note is: xbox controller auto-fires (or it did in OMD 1).
And honestly, who cares if I use an auto-fire? It just clicks for me, not like its aiming for me :P

Heh this argument made me chuckle.
As for macros, they're as much cheats as modded GUIs which a vast amount of people also use for various games. Although saying that, some macros have been known as cheats, i.e. old bunnyhopping macros for instance from TF days.

I think you need a fancy gaming mouse with programable buttons to be able to do it. Unless I'm mistaken, Nananea uses a Razr Naga.
