Steam Data Validation Failure - SOLVED
I DL'd OMD from Steam. Installed no problem and have been playing on-and-off quite a bit. I played the game for a couple hours 2 days ago.
Today when I tried to play I received the following popup:
"Data Validation failed. Please validate your game files through Steam. The game will now open a browser window with more information"
The closest thing I see to "Validate the game files" is in the OMD > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache... and the more information web page was only the OMD tech support FAQ which does not list this error.
I verified the Integrity of the Game Cache, Steam says the integrity is fine, still the game will not launch and give the same popup.
I've done a search here on this forum for "Validation" and foudn nothing to do with my particular issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the info. So we can help others.
We haven't seen that specific error, but we do note in #2 on the FAQ that when you're verifying your file cache, you should restart Steam first:

I have been seeing this almost constantly since getting OMD. It's the only game on Steam that does this.
I got so tired of having to verify all the time, and every time it would find more files to download, so I'd have to wait for that.
Finally gave up one day and just decided to start the game again, and it worked!
So to review, about 50% of the time, when I start OMD under Steam, I get the data validation error. I just start the game again (after closing the browser window that gets openned), and 99% of the time, it works. Very rarely, it fails again the second time, but always works the third time.
I have run disk checking s/w, and there are no bad sectors on my disk, so whatever is causing this is something flakey with the validation s/w.

This is how to fix it:
1 - Go to your steam game list.
2 - Right click the game and click properties.
3 - Go to "local files" then at the bottom theres a button that says "Verify integrity of game cache..." Click this button and it will do it for you.
It may need to down missing file if you go back to the game list it will show there if its downloading
hope this helps

Yeah, and we don't run the validations. That's all on the Steam side somewhere. Unfortunately, while it may be uncommon to a lot of you on your machines, having to verify file cache isn't that uncommon across the broader Steam game community. That said, you shouldn't have to be doing it every time. I'm not sure why it would be throwing you this error repeatedly if you have done a verification check.

I've found the solution to the problem, posting it here in case others can benefit from this.
When choosing to Verify the Integrity of the Game Cache, it seems you must first completely quite out of Steam, then relaunch Steam. Once I did this the verification process found 5 files that needed to be reaquired and went about doing so automatically. Now the game runs as before the issue.
Yay!
