Scout train say whaaaaat?
I may not understand rules here or it may be a bug, but am in a game right now where a train was triggered on a 130 hit point scout. The scout got knocked back by the train and damaged for 30 hit points? Say what? I know I don't get TF2 but I seem to be missing something.could someone explain the train rules? Forgive my sloppy iPhone typing :)
Really? Will need to test this. I know I've used the train to knock off an annoying jarate but I know I took a boatload of damage for it.... Will test.
This is not right, if you hit the switch your unit will take the same damage, 400 physical and get charted of the map if it is KO ed
I believe this would have more to do with the scout specific mechanics. When a scout is hit he jumps back. There is likely some weird coding that caused the scout to only take partial damage before his ability triggers.
This has been stated in the forum in the past. I know I asked and found the answer :-)
If it is your turn, and you activate the train - the damage is treated the same as the spike shield damage. As in you will get dealt 400 physical but it can't take a "friendly" unit below 100 hit points. Knockback rules still apply. KO'd units laying on the tracks still get swept away though. Further train hits in the same turn toward a "friendly" that is at or below 100 health get dealt zero damage.
I was in a match as Tribe and used this mechanic to win the game because it allowed me to reset the board position of my guys.
Knockback mechanics can get funky too with the train - this has also been discussed here. See the +1 impaler 1 ap stomp thread.
I believe there are some animation bugs that show the result of events out of order during a train event as well but it is probably low priority on Robot's bug tracker. This may also add to the confusion.

Going down to a maximum 100HP could be a great way of dealing with a pre-jarate on the train map. I never thought of that before.

A pre-jarate'd unit will die even to a friendly train.
The jarated unit that was "cured" by the train must have been a monster void monk or wraith with mega HP. Anything else (including a 1,100 HP Chieftan) will be stomped by the train if jarate is involved, even if it is a suicide. Nice trick to disarm jarate if you can though.
Whether they change the friendly train attack or I found a bug.
I revived a Monk, went onto the train field and he didnt got kicked or stomped. My K.O'd Units were still stomped by friendly train.
edit: okay he gets damage, when he has more than 100hp, but he doesnt get stomped.
This has been documented before. Your units cannot fall below 100 HP on your own turn (via train or Spiked Shield).

I heard that a "friendly" train will not kill an allied unit -- it will only knock it down to 100 hp. Was it a friendly train? In other words, did your opponent hit the train switch, and then his scout didn't die?
