It's The Tribe... Now this isn't a Tribe is overpowered post (I don't think they're overpowered at all), it's just an observation that I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention so far.
The Tribe does what Shaolin does, but better. With just an Axe-Thrower and a Warrior, they can 2-shot most basic units, and 3-shot just about anything. Only need to move two units into position for the combo to work, plus they have a few Typhoons to bring units to them.
So, if just two units on a fairly well-balanaced team can do Shaolin's gimmick better than Shaolin, something is clearly wrong, right?
at the moment i find its hard to get units into position to combo for shaolin. If I move shaolin on the advance, they get picked off or get exposed due to the weak nature. If I wait for the enemy to come while I build up units, shaolin gets bombarded by long range units or fast moving units. The only long range unit is the poisoners, but it is really difficult to get a stomp in so the enemy just ress. the KO unit.

This was always my opinion also - even before Shaolin was even announced.
I always thought that the only way that this team, The Tribe, succeeded was to hit in combos, with Typhoon being a key team-member in that regard. And The Tribe is just as squishy as the Shaolin, albeit a little pricklier with spiked armor.
For combos to work, setups are essential. Setups cost AP. If you consider AP as investment and AoE as dividends, then there's an easy "Cost Benefit Analysis" (CBA) when playing your rounds as any team player: What's it going to cost you? Will you come out ahead after the dust settles? For any team, cost is fallen dudes and lost armor.
I think the big difference why it works as the right practice for The Tribe - and this element has been pointed out in various other "Shaolin weakness threads" is the healers. The Taoists are too close to the action to be useful and can't really provide additional umph. But the Tribe's shammy can hang back and be at minimimal risk to try to rez fallen units and therefor recover "some of the cost"; when the Witch was Queen and feared, her Big Bang payout was comparable to the new king, Lil Dorfin Annie.
Like you, I was stimied by the fact that I was a halfway decent Tribe player because of my combo-stylin, yet could not do anywhere near aadequately with the Shaolin which was a combo team by design!
So I blame the healer difference primarily because its hard to recover much after the retaliation of the other team unless its another Shaolin. And also pointed out elsewhere on the forums, SL vs. SL boils down to trench warfare in a titt-for-tat slap fight.
one hit with axe thrower, one hit with warrior, followed by corpse explosion with witch feels way more rewarding than any Shaolin combo...Tribe was always the team that you are supposed to be the most on the offensive with ...it has the most balance in their own units, even their super unit isnt that great (which is why they have 2), they don't have a lot of armor so no wasted AP in using items on ur players, etc. etc. etc. etc. ... as I've said in 1000 other posts, Robot failed big time with Shaolin, and with every single post that is created on this site somebody gives another reason why

Yeah, I agree that the Tribe has already used the "combo" system in just two units, and then they built an entire team out of comboing.
I feel like the combo system will either get more damage per combo, or the points will persist across turns.
All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again.
