Profile Missing
Just today, I accidentally opened Orcs Must Die while it was closing. I saw the "Syncing..." message by Orcs Must Die in Steam, and when I opened it later my profile was gone. It just took me to the create a new profile page. My achievements are still there, but I lost all my progress. Can anyone help?
Thanks for the response! I do have a profiles.xml file. What do I do with it?
Did you make a new character since you lost your progress? If so, then the file currently there is probably garbage (assuming it isn't the greatest progress you currently have), but you may want to keep a copy just in case.
If you have a version from before you lost your progress, then just put it in the folder where it is supposed to be. Whichever profiles.xml is in that folder will be loaded when the game starts. I think you may also need to remove the wrong one from the folder, not just rename it.
The one you want is most likely the one with the last modified date closest to (before or immediately after) the last time when your profile worked.
Unfortunately, the profile-saving functionality linked above only works in OMD2. We didn't have that feature in OMD1, and if a profile gets "stomped" by something from the cloud (or vice versa) there's not much that can be done to recover it.
This is unfortunate. I just decided that - after 5 months or so - it was time to finally get those few missing skulls and get that achievement, and maybe check what was my progress on Nightmare. Nope, that ain't gonna happen. Profile is missing for no apparent reason. :>
Are you on Steam or XBLA? Most often when we've seen this on Steam it's because of some Steam Cloud save conflicts.
Steam it is. And I guessed that much since I saw those earlier posts.
Can you add this feature that saves your profile like in omd2?
Would really help in future
....60.000+ career kills vanished :(
tried to recover deleted files with recuva, it has deep scanned my hard drive but hasnt found profile files
The same thing just happened today to me. I tried to follow the instructions on this page:
http://support.robotentertainment.com/customer/portal/articles/730391-i-...
But I didn't have a "201790" folder. At all. So I made a new character and it gave me the folder, but the backup file doesn't change anything. I don't even know what is going on anymore. I'd prefer to not have to work back up to 63,000 kills and 240+ skulls, kinda aggravating.
The backup must've been overwritten when I had to create a new profile to get the folder number. There's not much I can do at this point, so just take this as a cautionary tale: Never trust other people to hold on to your information.
Those instructions only work for OMD2. We have a profile backup system in there that wasn't present in the first game.

Achievements are stored separately from game save data.
Do you have a backup of the game data?
The profile is called Profiles.xml and is in [Location you installed Steam to]\Userdata\[SteamID]\102600\remote

You could try filing a ticket with Steam, but I don't think they keep backup versions of user files. It could encourage them to make the cloud more robust though.
