Portal is overpowered and needs to go
Right now I am in an endless game (The Tower / Wave 163). The game has been running for almost 32h. Have I actually been playing for that long? Hell, no. The game has mostly been running on it's own past wave 80. I check back in occasionally pick up the coins, place some traps in the few remaining available spots and then turn off the monitor again.
Wave after wave runs through the traps, reach a grid of about 30 portals and get teleported back to their entry points. Rinse and repeat.
It takes forever to actually kill all the fatties but sooner or later all the mountain trolls and earth lords die. That is with me never firing a shot or activating the trap reset trinket. That can't be the purpose of the game.
While this game right now is extreme. All endless games are dragged out to be several hour long marathon sessions. High scores aren't made impossible either. I made it to number 1 in the leaderboards on The Crossing with Portals and probably have a good shot at the top spot at The Tower as well. If you play long enough you accumulate the points sooner or later.
Portals might be fine in Story mode because of time constraints but Endless mode really becomes ...well... endless.
I don't expect it to be removed from the game but please don't include anything like it in Orcs Must Die 3.
It's a tradeoff. Portals increase survivability, but increase play time. If you want to do this, that is your choice.
Void walls stop killing heavies in one shot around wave 70 or so. The last moneybags at level 100 take something like 20 void wall hits to die... and yes, I've done it. That's how I know. I went past level 1000 on tower. Other people have done it too. I'm on my phone right now so it's a bit difficult to post a link but go back in the forums at about the time the last DLC came out. Some guy went to 1300+. Also YouTube a video of close cliffs for a 1000 level guide.. Don't expect super high scores though. 10M maybe.
Slightly off-the-wall suggestion but what if they made it so each wave after a certain wave, the mobs increased in movement speed as well as HP? That would help solve these ridiculous situations where you end up playing for days on one stupidly long endless run. Because eventually even the giants will be going so quick that your traps can't reset fast enough etc. Though a horde of mountain trolls charging at me at 100mph is kind of a terrifying idea......

If you survive them going 99mph at you, or even 95mph, I think you've done just fine and can be content with your trampling.
You're not forced to use them; if you find them to be game breaking you could always put a self-imposed limit.
It reminds me of the RPG days when munchkins would complain a monster's too overpowered :-)

the trap is even more overpowered when you combine it with void walls and the spike wall which can instakill any mob on whatever level (not sure about insanely high rounds as i know the lava/acid stops killing the orcs) but will do the job. i think however they should be included but should be much more expensive for example on the tower endless i had 30 floor portals by wave 30 and nothing could get through. i left my computer to run till wave 50 then suicided. you do have a good point but i doubt it will get removed or even patched. the cooldown time is really quick aswell (about 19 or 20 seconds from what i counted) which can make it (if you have enough of them) theoretically impossible for any wave to get through.
