Okay. What's with the CAPTCHA?
We're all thinking it. It seems overboard when there hasn't been that much spam, right?
So why was it implemented? Can we not have a simpler solution? It's annoying to try and guess the numbers/letters.
BFBC2 forums used to have impossible ones.
Opps. My bad, everyone. After a successful CAPTCHA check, you will not be challenged with another after that post. I meant to add that rule to the system when I set it up. Fail.
We enabled CAPTCHA due to an increase in spam. You probably haven't noticed any of the spam because we jump on it almost immediately when it shows up.
Apologies for the short inconvenience.
No worries! but got suprised

It's better to have it installed then seeing spam.

Personally, I would rather deal with spam than have a captcha.

Having to manually monitor the boards all day long is a real time drain for us to manage. It's gotten pretty out of hand lately, honestly. As Mike said, though, after you've done the captcha successfully once, you should be good to go. We want to make the most of our time, but also to inconvenience you guys as little as possible.
But every time i post i need to insert the Captcha is it gonna be like that or just put once!? :)

Then the spammer also only has to enter the captcha once. I'm not quite seeing why it would be helpful.
I don't have to put it in anymore when I want to post.
Robot Entertainment isn't the biggest developer out there, they can't have their resources working so hard on petty things such as spam on their forums. They're trying to make it easier on the hard working team so they can focus on their games.
Because we're totally going to die if we see a little spam. No one's requesting the RE monitor this place 24/7, I'm just saying that spam alone isn't going to hurt us, as long as it is cleaned out within a reasonable timeframe.
If you happen to be a moderator or even a admin, you deal with spam everyday and you want this system installed. Users will love it or hate it. The matter of things is that, Robot is trying to save their time from dealing with spam and working on their projects and to show the world what they are doing. This doesn't mean they are going to never come to the forum and comment on things. They will have more time to do that and be able then deal with much needed things.
We're capable of working on more than one thing at one time :)
We have a full time web developer, McGlu, who is looking at the options available to us. Fear not, loyal minions!
...
Is it just me, or would Darkstar have loved that quote?

I've actually noticed this a lot over the last few weeks. People advertising 'iphones' and whatnot...
Yes, the spammers are a tricky lot to deal with.
We've just recenty implemented a new anti-spam componenet that should help greatly with stopping them. Though, we're still monitoring and tweaking things. Hopefully, you will see spam dropping off considerably in the coming days and weeks.
Also, keep pointing out any that you see so we can investigate and squash it.
Well, ther's the bnet thing where identical posts aren't allowed, which also has the bonus of eliminating non-contributing posts like "+1 /post"

I hate captchas too :(. I thought captchas tend to be on the sign up / registration page as opposed to existing registered members...?
