OMD2 failing to start
I am having issues with the game starting through steam. i have tried reinstalling the game MULTIPLE times and it continues to not work. When i hit the "play" button i get this message: "Failed to start game (unknown error)" Could you guys at robot please help me here? i started geting the message after i downloaded the FIRE AND WATER pack.
Have you tried verifying the game files through Steam?
Yes I have. and i seem to be having the issue most others are having where it says 2 files failed to verify but downloading the files (like it should) doesnt seem to work.
Hmmm...a developer told me once that 1 file failing to verify wasn't an issue, but I don't know about two. My experiences have always been either a reinstall works or just waiting a day or two works. Hopefully someone else can add a more definite solution for you.
I have the same problem. Please help its making me mad
FINALLY!!!!!!! Somebody else knows what i mean and what the problem is. Now if only we could fix this. I contacted steam after coming to the conclusion that it is on the steam end of it. But i have not heard from steam about it yet
You could try deleting local content and reinstalling the game. If that doesnt do it then it might be a firewall or a small virus that does nothing but make life annoying, like trojans.
It isnt a virus or firewall issue. And I have deleted the local content and reinstalled it NUMEROUS times with no effect. Last night i uninstalled ALL of my steam games and reinstalled steam itself. I have redownloaded OMD2 and it still has the same problem
Hmm might be a steam cloud issue in that case, try going offline and playing it then. You could also try buying another dlc and seeing if the problem fixes itself when it reinstalled. Should both those fail, you could try running steam and orcs must die as an admin.
I have a feeling i know what it is but i dont know how i would solve it. When i verify the cache it says 2 files are missing and it never fixes it even though it says it does. Well while i was trying to get Dungeoon Defenders to work also i realized that by changing another exe that might run the game (hopefully) that i got the exact same "unknown error" message from steam. the original dungeon defenders exe has an icon with it so you know which one to use. In the folder with the OMD2 exe there is only one exe to run the game. It does not have an icon associated with it (i know the icon is not why it messes up) I wonder if the second file that steam cant find is the actual exe used to run the game. I would contact steam about this but they are gonna give me some crappy auto response telling me to verify the game cache. Does anyone have an idea about this possibly?
It looks like it might be the EXE itself. i deleted the exe and revalidated the file and it still came back with 2 files missing.
Well you clearly own the game, and I own all the dlc, so if worst comes to worst I will just copresst the game and drop box it to ya.
Hey AgentTrap could you check and see if you have more than one exe? to see the exe you just go to where you installed steam and Steam\steamapps\common\Orcs Must Die 2\build\release
Its definitely the EXE file that is corrupt.
Yes, I have one exe, and it is 6020kb.
ok. mine is about that aswell, I tried placing the exe from my brother's copy of OMD2 but it would not allow it.
Just to be sure...you are trying to play this on windows right?
yes
OK, you never know. Do you have another computer you could move the file over to test it?
i tried placing my brother's OMD2 exe but it will not allow you to place anything inside the folder

Sounds like a folder permissions error. You may have received a message about "needing administrator privileges to perform this action". If so, provide such permissions (or try the copy/paste from an administrator account on the computer).
Its definitely the EXE file that is corrupt.
How did you determine that? If it helps, the MD5 checksum of my (functioning) .exe file is 3B778751C859C228C122DCAB33AE4236
Have you tried completely restarting steam before doing a file verification? Sometimes it gets a little wonky, and if you COMPLETELY close it down (check the task manager and end the process if you have to), restart it, then go to OMD2 and do a file verification, that may grab the extra file (which in this case sounds like it might be the executable... which is super-strange).
I reinstalled all drivers i could think of and it finally worked. Also try downloading from a different region.
I bought this game as a gift for a friend of mine and he is having a similar issue with the game failing to start. Very frustrating as I was trying to get him back into gaming and this isn't helping much at all.

Anyone???
