Meet the Mystical New Shaolin Team!
Robot Entertainment has announced that a new Shaolin team will be enrolling at the Hero Academy in November. New details offer players a first look at the unique abilities of the combo-focused team. The Shaolin team will be accompanied by the release of new avatars and free Shaolin team-specific challenges. The Shaolin team also brings with them a free new playing field that will go into automatic rotation for all players. In addition to the deadly new team, a new premium Challenge Collection will be available for 99¢. The Challenge Collection contains 30 challenges that mix and match team units for an exciting twist on Hero Academy’s offline puzzles. The Shaolin team and the new Challenge Collection will be available on Steam and the iOS App Store in November.

From heroic schools in the east comes a balanced team who turns their enemy's powers against them. The mystical warriors of the Shaolin team have defeated countless enemies in their own land. Now they hope to test their skills at the fabled Hero Academy. The Shaolin's heroes reduce the strength of their enemies, and can combine their attacks for additional damage.
Team Bonus: Each unique unit that damages an opponent in the same turn deals successively higher damage.

Is this the Jiang Hu team the Chinese got?
freaking awesome! i am glad you took the team out for us too :D
Yeah this looks exactly like the team the Chinese got. Goody.
Can't wait to get this team!
And will probably get those new challenges as well...

To be clear on this, the Jiang Hu team was only ever announced for China. It wasn't actually released. Yodo1 created the original concept for the team. When it was announced for China, many of our Western players took a huge interest in it. So we worked with Yodo1 and fleshed out the team and mechanics. This is that team, and it will be released on all Hero Academy platforms both in the Chinese version and the Western version of the game.

Yay! Nice work Robot. It's great to see another team coming into the game, and will revitalise my interest in the game.
To be honest the team looks mostly like a reskinned council.
The mechanics seem really interesting, spectres? i hope there more like Jiang-shi's so they keep there equipment/abilities or keep it with reduce stats.
or at the very least the spectres come with useful special abilities unlike phantoms

Doesnt seem like Council at all to me.
First, look at offense: the monk permanently lowers the max health by 25% -- 960 to er, 720ish. The poisoner then lowers its defense and resist, and what is left? A push over. Debuff and kill is currently only a mechanic the Dwarves have; the Shaolin will have debuff and kill to a much higher extent -- it will be their signature. The Council, by contrast, has the Archer, which is a kill through overwhelming damage. Very different.
Second, look at defense. While they probably have few resists/defense and no ability to add it, their bamboo barriers, if you have time, will likely provide support on both offense and defense. But they wont last against an enemy that has time to clear them out...its about gaining time. Very different from a geared knight, which is a very hard to kill and mobile blocker.
The Shadow does sound like the Necromancer, and the AOE fighter...hard to tell, but there are only so many AOE patterns, and it does sound like the Wizard. So maybe the new team doesnt get an A+ for originality on the unit side; that is ok if the team as a whole plays with great originality, and it sure sounds like they will.
Very excited! While I've come to enjoy the huge change of pace that comes with playing TF2, I'm glad to see that the next team is a bit more traditional but still offering some cool twists.
Challenges sound great too! Can't wait to try them out, and they new pack will be an insta-buy.
While I'm still hankering for an Android release, I'm a bit more interested in local play. I would love to leave the game running on my PC over the holiday, with some friends stepping up to take moves at their leisure.

Art, I think he was saying they LOOK similar to Council (reskinned), not play similar. :D
Yes I ment that they look similar, my post used so many wrong words :)
The mechanics look really interesting though

Well, humans are humans to some degree, wouldnt expect the artwork to be Tribe-level of creative.
November????!!!!!! It better be the 1st of the month or I am going to write a letter to someone who probably won't care! Lol seriously though I can't wait.
This is what they said in the comments of the Facebook post:
Hero Academy - We don't have a specific date just yet. We're submitting the update to Apple this week, and from there it just depends on how long they take to approve it. Once approved for Apple, it'll be released for all platforms.
Awesome team. Can't wait.
Awesome, thought we were missing out, when I saw pictures of this team in Chinese HA
Thanks for the updates RE, great stuff

Well between this and assassins creed 3 I can't wait for anything anymore! I'm going to explode!
I wonder if a Taoist can reverse a Monk's 25% HP reduction.
Also, I'm a little confused as to whether this team will be getting shield/helm/runemetal/another variant. If not it looks like this team will have significantly less items than any other team, unless they have lots of units like TF2.

They probably have lots of bamboo. Doesnt sound like they get any other items.

You'd need 9 lots of bamboo to make up for the 9 pieces of equipment lost! Imagine, a whole hand of bamboo ... then you swap it and you get another whole hand of bamboo ...
Surely there has to be equipment not mentioned. I can't see this being a unit-heavy team. It would strongly go against their trait.

Hmmm, I see what you mean! I think bamboo sounds terrific, but 9 does sound potentially clogoriffic. Still, Sixokay probably didnt forget items...my guess is that its just another non-standard deck.
If the deck does turn out to be smaller, maybe the reason is that the Shadow is expected to convert enough enemy units to effectively increase the Shaolin's unit count?

I just had a look at past blog entries when they announced the new teams:

For TF2, the Dwarves and the Tribe, it turns out that they didn't release details about the spells or upgrades at this point in the process either. That's probably just so they can make big changes if needed. I believe this is the first time we've been given a look at the spells actually. So that explains it. Now i'm all curious about what the consumables will be (if they're not the same).
Hey Six, any idea when we might be seeing stats (HP, damage, movement, etc) or are those still being balanced?
They already submitted it to Apple, so now all there is is wait a few weeks/days. :D

Then we take the fight to Apple. REJOICE MY FELLOW HERO ACADEMY SCHOLARS! REST EASY MY FRIENDS FOR TOMORROW WILL BE A BATTLE TO THE DEATH WITH APPLE UNTIL THEY CONCEDE AND RELEASE THE SHAOLIN!!!!
I just want shaolin released before assassins creed 3 because after AC3 releases I'm never leaving my room.
The Shaolin do have the Runemetal, Dragonscale, and Shining Helm.
Ah, okay. Thanks for the confirmation. That makes a lot more sense.

Just though I'd point out that Apple might release the new team before November.... if they *looks tword Apple HQ* STOP TAKING A COFFE BREAK AND GET BACK TO APPROVING UPDATES!!!!! :P (but seriously, I've seen updates approved 1 week from submission)

Can't wait to try them out. I also look forward to the new challenges.
(edit) A few questions:
I'm guessing the monk can only reduce max HP to a certain level?
Does the Windblade chain work like the wizard's? Can it go diagonally etc?
Does a converted enemy unit keep its equipment and any buffs it might have had before being KO'd?
And what exactly are the 'combos' in the combo potion?
What does 'unique unit' mean? Does it mean it only applies to a unit if there is one of its type on the board?
Thanks.
This team looks really interesting and unique; there's lots of interesting new mechanics that I look forward to trying out.
