"Legends of the Dynasty" a ...
Soo.. I was browsing another forum, and came across this:

I can't be the only one who sees the similarities, same sounds, and even some ripped models (the brimstone)?
Of course, this game comes with google-translated english! Is anyone even surprised? I certainly am not.
And they're selling it as a standalone game:

Is this even legal? It's obvious the game is based on OMD2, but more like a reskinned OMD2 with sounds ripped from every 90's fighting movies ever.
Rip off of games happen all the time. I don't know if it's legal as I'm not a layer. I presume it is since it's happened countless times before (ex. FPS based on Doom and Quake), and still happens today. I think the artwork, music and sounds may be copyrighted, but not the game play, style or genre.
It is unfortunate. On the other hand if I were Robot I wouldn't be too worried. It looks much worse (terrible menus at the beginning, seemingly clunky controls, bad sound effects, etc.) and less thought out than OMD2, or even the original OMD for that matter.
The thing that irks me here is how it's a copy paste with different fonts, and even the sounds are ripped from other games (the hitting sounds are from Warcraft 3, the spellbook is OMD's sound, etc).
I don't think it's material to be worried about either, but it shouldn't be allowed to be here in the first place, and certainly not sold as an independent game.
The sounds are often purchased as sound packs. It is not illegal for a company selling sound packs to sell that sound pack to other companies. Many movies use what I like to call the 'pink demon' sound effect. It is the sound of the pink demon growling in doom 2. The moment you recognise it you can hear it just about everywhere in many horror movies and games.
Recycling sounds and gameplay is not uncommon. While it does look to have brimstone and is 3rd person shooter with traps and archers - the tower defence genre has been done to death for an extremely long time. Sanctum is another game not disimilar with a first person pew pew action and traps with barricade type effects. Tower defence actually started in Warcraft 3 as a mod.
As for recycling sounds - there are plenty of idiots out there. Just a way of life. You've got to put out a quality product that people will buy (ie what robot entertainment has done) and games like this one will just fall flat. Kind of like:

For anyone that doesn't want to give the vid anymore views :P

yeah well it doesn't look nearly as awesome as OMD. which isn't a surprise :D
POKEMON X OMD WILL BE THE BEST
Bahahahaha! For $6 "I will be sent to your mailbox" I love engrish. =D Hows the saying go? Paraody is the greatest form of flattery? This game is clearly a joke!
well copycat games are nothing new nor are they illegal.
unless they "borrowed", made derivative works of, or made it too similar to the story, or art, or sounds, or characters or other copyrightable content they're within their legal right. just look at all the wolfenstein clones, the mario clones, and other clones that exist out there. and the chinese market is well known for its "borrowing" of ideas.
granted, it's very close to OMD2 but third person tower defense games are not wholly unique anymore.
fyredegg: imitation is the highest form of flattery.
Is it a rip-off? Probably. Personally, I don't see this is a big deal though. If it's a bad rip-off, then the real thing is still better. And if it's a better game than what it's ripping off, then that promotes some healthy competition. Games like this are never going to go away, and legally there's nothing wrong with it in most circumstances. Heck, look at Angry Birds. That game is a rip-off of a free browser game, and it's become its own franchise at this point.
There are good rip offs and bad rip offs. Good Rip offs generally take the good parts from a game and add things that make it better. Saints Row 2 for example was a good rip off of GTA. We don't care about your boring story GTA, just give us something fun to run over people with, oh, well hello there SR2. Minecraft was also a good Rip off of Infinaminer. It tried to use building as a stredegy type game, but people liked it for the creativeness. When that game stopped it's development Notch made Minecraft which had the purpose of creativity and it took off.
A bad rip off game is stuff like Fortresscraft and Total Miner. Minecraft is only for PC (at the time of it's release) let's make not much of a difference to the game, but selling it for Xbox. Wow, you guys are so risky. This is a bad rip off game. It doesn't trying to make new grounds with OMD or change anything from it. The spellbook, defending a magical spot, headshots, ect are all the same. Why would we want to even consider buying this game for doing nothing different? That's my opinion anyway.
Ney hey no, you don't understand what I mean, we're not talking about a game that mimics another to gain profit off it, or copying a genre to cash in on said genre, we're talking about how the game is literally OMD2 (the scripts, the mechanics, some sounds, models) with skins and models ripped from other games.
I know it's a *bad* ripoff, but it doesn't mean it should be allowed to be sold in the first place, or even be allowed to be anymore.
True, but looking at the video source it's a Chinese Rip Off which are extremly common. Probably trying to see if it can be sold in Europe too, but it won't gain any popularity without people knowing it is OMD2 soon after.
Now do I agree with it? Hell no. It should be pulled from shelves (Metaphorically speaking) immediately. Actually it is an idea to contact those sites and warn them of what this game really is, in an attempt to get it pulled down.
