If the Halo Wars community funded it ...
Hello Robot Entertainment,
I am a fan of Halo Wars and have been since day 1. What your team members did to create Halo Wars during the era of Ensemble (rest its soul) and what you did post launch as Robot Entertainment has been unsurpassed by any developer I have personally seen as a fan from the outside.
I am currently trying to start a movement inspired by Tim Schafer and Double Fine Studios to see if the community could fund a project for 343/MS to reach out and have someone develop DLC content for Halo Wars or possibly come up with a base fund for Halo Wars 2.
This idea is something that is probably not realistic and I understand that - however, I am a fan and am willing to do whatever I possibly can to keep this game, the community, and the creators of such a great game alive.
My GT is XxX Post XxX and I have been a Halo fan since day 1. I have played every single game ever made in the Universe for countless hours on end. One of my favorites to this day is still Halo Wars. I have spent countless hours dropping ODST, using a quad mac on a flying prophet, or beaming bases from the hills with my starred scarab while teammates harass with gauss hogs.
I don't see Microsoft ever coming up with the money to invest in making a Halo Wars 2, so I would like to have the community put up money to create new maps and/or gametypes for the existing Halo Wars.
If the recent activity at kickstarter.com (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventure?ref=s...) has shown anything about the gaming industry - fans have a lot of power to help fund a sequel for something they want.
I believe with our demand and ability to come up with money we could potentially get something built for our community to have for free and help stimulate growth in the Halo Wars community again.
I propose the following
Microsoft/343 creates a KickStart campaign and announces it to the Halo Community for free Halo Wars DLC.
Microsoft uses the money that comes in to build a series of new maps for Halo Wars OR if the funding is large enough - use it to create a prototype for Halo Wars 2.
It's simple - see how much of the community really wants another one. Let US let the money talk! If you allow this I will put up the first $1,000 USD.
Cheers,

I also love Halo Wars and more DLC would be fantastic. However, business decisions like this are down to Microsoft. They are not short on cash, so I dont think the community will need to fund anything!
If you would like more DLC or Halo Wars 2 the best thing is to say so and drum up as much support as possible on the official Halo forums. That would be your first port of call.
At the moment Robot is pressing ahead with new original games.
I don't care if it is halo wars 2 or not. But robot really does need to make a new console rts as there are no competitors in that area.

I understand your logic behind it and it is true. Microsoft most likely will never need money to fund anything in their lifetime as a company. However, seeing as Halo Wars was not as profitable as it could be - Microsoft is less inclined to move ahead with creating a 2nd game. At least - not anytime soon. Maybe in the future and most likely dependent on Kinnect sales between this generation and whatever happens in the next generation of consoles.
I just don't see anything happening for a while if at all within the Halo Wars universe and I am an impatient person and would like some form of game support to our community. Ever since Robot left - everything has dropped. 343 broke our game then patched it up and left us with nothing more.
We want some support from 343 - but they don't care. I don't blame them - Halo Wars is 3 years old. However, there are still 8k people daily on average that run through that game. Hell, there are 5k on right now!
We are 5k strong and want dlc. The rest of the world probably still owns a copy that is collecting dust or could pick one up at gamestop or any retailer for nearly 10-20 bucks if new DLC was announced.
I believe that if the community came up with money to hand to MS for a guilt free investment to make something for the community funded by the community - it could breakdown huge barriers in the games world and open up doors for possibilites. Look at what Tim Shcaefer did for the double fine adventure. http://pc.ign.com/articles/121/1218396p1.html
It can happen and they proved it. They are a developer which is true - but in this case, a publisher owns the IP we want made so we as a gamers need to lobby them. I am tired of nothing happening so I'm stepping up to the plate for my community and backing it with some cold hard cash.
If MS will let us do this I want it to be done. Simply let us do a kickstart project and see how much we gather. Dependent on what we gather - that will be made. Hell - I might just stimulate the economy enough with this to create a few new jobs. I'm trying to do what I can to help out as many as possible and with this idea and the success I believe it would bring a revolution to the games world.
Fans would finally get a say in this casual plagued universe of games.
As you mention 343's support of Halo Wars was (and still is) pretty terrible. 343 decided to take Halo Wars in house and no longer needed Robot to continue the support. Since then they have indeed bodged a number of updates until eventually rolling back to one of Robot's previous patches. Things were alot better when Aloysius was running the community side of things, I know things haven't been the same since 343 took over. However, if 343 wanted to invest in Halo Wars they could have continued the contract with Robot but they chose not to do that.
Its all down to 343 to provide the support and future content i'm afraid. They're the only people you can ask. If they are not willing then there is not much which can be done i'm afraid.
Robot is not in the position to supply any further content to Halo Wars unless asked to do so. In any event, Robot as studio is more focused on delivering their own original content these days.
Well my goal is to raise enough cash to extend that contract. I want open dialogues if possible between 343 and robot. If at all possible - I would love to see a map pack come from robot if at all possible.
I know it is a long shot - but that is why i'm involving every area of the community i know of. Here, Bungie forums, waypoint forums, and lazyfrog.us forums.
A lot of people are in support of it - but I think if we got enough people together we could shell up enough cash to get the ball rolling for something to happen now or in the future.
Robot was the best support hands down I have seen outside of bungie for post launch support. I want to do everything possible to keep that tie between the companies. Cash talks Dean - if you have it, people will do things.. Hopefully!
As has been mentioned previously, Halo Wars is entirely in Microsoft's hands now. And from what we've all heard publicly, they're very focused on shipping Halo 4 at the moment. We don't know any of their future plans for Halo Wars, but it IS entirely theirs to make plans around. We've not worked on it in ages, and are now entirely focused on projects that more directly benefit our growing studio - namely, games that we own. I have many friends at 343 still, and if they want to create more DLC for Halo Wars, they have plenty of talented developers there who can take that work on easily and confidently.
I'm glad that you enjoy the game so much, even after all this time, but if you're looking for more content or a sequel, the place to do it is at the HaloWaypoint.com forums. There's not much that can be done over here.
Thanks Six,
I am working all fronts to hopefully get enough buzz going that someone makes a move with Halo Wars. I know that if enough buzz happens and enough resources become available - it could happen. I hope that it does and I'm glad for what Robot was able to do for Halo Wars. I'm a huge fan of the expansion packs you guys made and can't wait to see future projects of the studio. I hope there is a dark shroud over the world right now and a Halo Wars 2 is in collaboration in the background with you guys heavily involved.
Cheers,

I bite my thumb at the current Halo Wars forums. They are a mockery of what once was a Holy realm, lost forever in the Mists Shenanigans.

I can tell you that we are not currently involved in the development of a Halo Wars sequel of any sort. We are entirely focused on developing our own original games.

Regardless...
They're still a better resource for being heard by the people who can do something than the Robot forums are. :)

Be that as it may...

I like Halo Wars, too, but I quite love our original games that we're developing.
What this game needs is kinect support. That's it. Halo Wars + Kinect.
Microsoft is still creating concepts, so why not?
I could easily envision controlling armies and grouping them together with the swipe of your hands. Maybe even splitting the screen in half so you can micromanage multiple armies at once.
I always thought the Xbox Marketplace was too closed of a system for a game like Halo Wars to work. The communities need access to free maps to help the game vibrant.
If Microsoft won't fund a sequel, maybe they'll fund a concept. If done right, it could be a relaunch of an old game and easily make it the best game on kinect. At worse, it might open the door to other ventures. Though the technology isn't perfect, it might fit a RTS smoothly.
But perhaps my kinect-starved mind is simply getting to me.

while not really a halo fan like XxXPostXxX, Halo wars ranks as one of my all time favourite games and is the only game I have played frequently and consistently since it's release in 2009(yeah, I play alot). Halo wars, a CONSOLE RTS continues to pull 5-7k players a night 3 years after it's release. that is the definition of success right there.
as such; it seems only fitting that Robot entertainment, using fan made donations, creates new DLC for Halo wars. Or better yet; starts thinking about a Halo wars 2. I hope you do something because it is your game after all and I would rather you make DLC than 343i.
I have no money to spare right now, but when I do I pledge £1,000 to the cause.
Support the most successful console rts!
