I just want a happy medium
between curb-stomping randoms and getting torn apart by my forum buddies any time I make a move without thinking about it for half an hour.
Does anyone else feel this way? Giving tabby and hiruma a good game is just a little too much work to be fun, and the randoms either don't give me enough of a fight to be fun, or take five days to play their turns.
I just wanna play intuitively instead of with painstaking calculation and win around half of the time. I get burned out playing BenFraley constantly even if I win a lot of the time.
Maybe I should go prey on the 1200-1250ers in the League? I dunno.
Sooooorrryyyyy... >.>
Oh, I've found matchups where I win about 50% of the time. What I want is matchups where I win 50% of the time without having to try super hard. To put it another way I've got [tons of effort, 5-10% win rate], [tons of effort, 50% win rate], and [a little effort, 95% win rate]. What I want is [a little effort, 50% win rate].
Like, I'm not describing a reasonable complaint here. I'm just wondering if anyone else feels the same way.
Yeah, I get that.. To be frank, I ususally go play Bejewelled for a bit. Or The World Ends With You (GO BUY IT AND PLAY IT! IT IS COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY WORTH IT!!). Or read a book. =p
I think competitive games are just not the type of thing you want to play when you want to relax..

What was I, chopped liver?
Oh, you ninja'd me, tabby. :) No hard feelings.
And Writch, I don't know how I overlooked you! I cry your pardon.
I know what you mean, after I played with a friend around 15 matches (tournament with every possible combination of teams) I had quite enough to play with him xD. He plays very well and beats me around every second time and I have always to think about my moves than just do a little bit
@Blobertson
I feel like this game gives you the opportunity to give you whatever you want.
Play a bunch of random games. When someone give you a good game quickly, rematch him or her. Soon your gamelist is full of people good for you.
I'm not saying that's me. I play a lot on weekends and slow during the week. I'm saying that it seems like everyone should be able to find what they're looking for by pressing the rematch button.
I feel ya Blobby.
I ran out of time to play competatively, now I play all my games with little effort. So anyone wanting some easy league points, feel free to challenge me! I stopped challenging others to league games, and mostly play learning or practice games. Additionally, Outwitters turns take far less time to make a 'competative' move, and I get my fix there(with auto match making!). HA is still super fun, I just have fun losing now ;) maybe I'll get challenged enough to bring my points down to a 50% win ratio again one day...
Yep, totally feel this way. Can beat the newbie randoms, have some close match-ups that I tend to keep in my games list and get beat down by good players...guess I've yet to make that strategic "leap" to the next level...
I haven't gotten around to challenging a lot of the players here due to this.
That's a great way to improve your game you learn more by defeat than by wining against lesser foes.
Yeah, I know. I'm open to anyone challenging me and teaching me... =)
Just not sure how many veteran players really want to spend time teaching lessons...
sorry mate :)
in our next game i can try tribe tho, im willing to bet you will rape me since im so bad with em ^^

You know what might scratch your itch? Quick play games. If each player has to move within one minute (or whatever), there isn't enough time for too many calculations, so you can play intuitively and be pretty sure that your opponent is doing the same.
I agree with the OP. League games are definitely more involved than randoms, but when i have a hankering to start a game NOW, im forced to play an effortless random game.

I hear ya on that.
The League is a good start. If you keep challenging folks around your rating, you'll naturally find matchups where you win about 50% of the time. Long-term, we can only hope that Robot is someday going to address our matchup needs with an in-game solution...
