How does Flak work?
I haven't been able to figure out how to get reliable flyer kills with the rocket launcher's secondary attack (flak).
Some of the time it kills groups in 1 shot, most of the time 2 shots, or maybe it kills 1 in group and take another 2 shots for the rest.
So, is there something I am missing about the rocket launcher's secondary attack?
I love the rocket launcher. I use it on almost all levels that have flying units now. For me it is one of the best new items from the dlc, as it made the game much more playable and lead to me beating many levels that I could nvr get past.
I play with a gamepad and find that shooting flying units is really hard. Without the accuracy of a mouse it is just real hard to headshot them or even hit them with ice blasts. Though with the flak attack you can waste groups of flying mobs just by shooting in their general vicinity. It is a must have weapon for me and I rarely go with out it.
As for how it works? Well my guess (and this is a guess) is that it is a AOE blast that dissipates dmg the further away form the center mark. So a dead eye shot dose more dmg than at the edge of a circle effect radius. This is why when you fire it if you hit somthing dead on it will die and then if you hit it with teh edge oif the effect it might take 2 shots.
Strange thing is, when i hit inbetween 2 flyers it will sometimes 1 hit or take 2, or when when hit directly will still take 2 hits. (on warmage)
But I feel a little better know that others are as confused as I am. I've started to toy around with it because flak is also useful to take down a group of shields :)
The theory I had a few months ago was that the more things the flak hit, the more damage it did to them. Single fliers took forever to kill but it seemed like bigger clumbs died in one or two shots. Granted I haven't played in a month or so.
I think it's just a random amount of damage between X and Y, only we don't have anything to base anything on so all we can do is keep guessing how a simple damaging ability actually works, so damn trivial..

Truthfully I don't know if anyone would know the answer to this. My understanding is that it has an aoe as well as a direct hit mechanic ... possibly. If it has a direct hit it does more damage than if it hits and does its AOE which can result in two shots ... either that or its several pellets that require hit locations.
Honestly it's a mystery to me also. I find myself avoiding it though because of it's unweildy primary and hefty mana cost.

I'd like to see a Rogotin skin for the warmage and sorc. I envision it as kobold runner with a nifty hat riding your shoulders as he lobs grenades at your barricades whilst smacking you in the back of the head.
