How to Recover a Lost Profile
We've occasionally seen issues where syncing with the Steam Cloud inappropriately will stomp out your profile. In case this happens, we added a profile backup system into the last patch. It may not recover quite all of your progress, but it will get you close if you lose your profile.
To recover your profile:
- Shut down Steam so that is not running at all
- In the folder My Documents\Shiner\ is a file called profiles.xml.bak, select that can press Ctrl-C to copy it
- Go to the directory you installed Steam into and find the folder in there called “userdata”
- Unless you have had multiple people playing on this machine, there will be only one folder named a particular number (related to your SteamID).
- Inside there open folder 201790 (Example: D:\OMDSteam\userdata\14582041\201790)
- There, delete the file called remotechache.vdf
- Go into the remote directory (Example: D:\OMDSteam\userdata\14582041\201790\remote )
- Delete the profies.xml file in there
- Paste in that profiles.xml.bak file with Ctrl-V, then rename it to just profiles.xml
- Restart Steam
- Play the game – you should see this save game available to you. If Steam asks you if you want the local file or the one from the Steam Cloud, pick the local one.
Today, i have played omd1 several times (on same computer). When i wanted to play the game once again, there was a notification headlined steam warning.
"steam was not able to sync your files ..."
i clicked play game and my profile for OMD 1 was deleted
i went to Documents/Orcs must die/ but there were only videosettings.xml
no profiles.xml.bak...
60.000+ career kills vanished, together with all fully upgraded traps.
How / can i recover my profile ?
The profile restore is only on OMD2. It wasn't implimented for OMD1, unfortunately. If there was a problem syncing your OMD1 profile via Steam, you can try to sync it again. Failng that, SOME people have said that rolling back their PC to before the cloud sync error has helped, but we can't guarantee it.
So it seems robot entertainment is really great at screwing people over.
I've had a very similar problem, I have had my computer on for the past few days after many MANY hours of OMD2...
And last night I decided to shut my computer down, *Claps Excitedly* What a great idea.. Too bad OMD2 Deleted my profile..
I've Tried this Recovery crap... it didn't work "Obviously"
Either give me a way to recover my account. Or give me my money back.... Simple as that.

Not to mention everytime i successfully finish the last wave of nearly any match. The game decides to "Experience Network Issues" and then just Crashes.. without even a crash report... Why bother releasing a game that is so flawed and broken.. And you aren't even patching.. or fixing these issues? i spent HOURS reading through Hundreds of complaints regarding the loss of profiles.. and that hasn't changed.. and the fact that the game will not let you complete any level without crashing?...

Only set me back like 10 clears, and about 40-50ish skulls , but better then starting from scratch.
My high scores are still there .. :)
but I gotta unlock the maps again to see them. :(
