Nicely done :) Haven't managed to finish this map using a high scoring strat with the sorceress yet. Sounds like a challenge!
I see your 7M and raise you a 12!
Nice. :)
So, you see it can be done ! Same loadout as Warmage strat., or have you done a concession ?
The concessions I made didn't have a huge impact: level 3 windbelt and level 3 vampire gauntlets. For the warmage I used tar instead of web, and fear trinket instead of acid sprayer. In both cases I used the zapper. Not bad for combos and, with stun, amazing for the gnolls and fliers alike! With some practice I might be able to manage a 15x solo... not this round though.
I used the Zapper too, but went to the other extreme with upgrades : fully upgraded Acid Sprayer and fully upgraded Scorcher.
Wanted to try again tonight with an unupgraded scorcher, but keeping the upgraded Sprayer because while upgrading both seemed OTT and I was losing lots of combos, I had issues with grinder jamming and stuff not dying at the grinder when none was upgraded.
*ponders*
No damage upgrades other than vamps and windbelt. Mostly for mana management, to kill flyers faster, and get more health back to survive the gnolls and archers.
The first grinder on the pillar is the most effective for sure, but I gradually put a stack of grinders on the wall and found that nearly as effective.
Hmm... I seemed to remember from my warmage mode runs definitely getting lower combos from the back grinders, which is why I've been trying to get stuff to die at the first grinder.
I guess I didn't have Longer Burn on the scorcher at the time, so that'd be one. I was positive Stun would be lost, but just tested it out and it's still effective. You don't lose the Acid Sprayer combo point either... so the conclusion would be the same as usual : don't trust impressions, just hard testing. ;)
I'm suprised neither of you have considered working the ice amulet into your build for the flyers. Freezing fliers makes them fall into kill boxes and combo. Considering the scorchers benefits though freezing them might be quite the feat; but the one thing I haven't gone down is using the ice amulet in kill boxes. I'm pretty sure the freeze will screw up the fire but FROZEN doesn't over-ride CHILL which is applied by the steam vent.
Just a thought.
FROZEN doesn't over-ride CHILL which is applied by the steam vent.
Oh, was still working under the old theory that Frozen did override Chill... not that it matters, though. :(
The only reliable sources for Frozen are the Ice Vent which doesn't combo, so is out, and the Ice Amulet secondary, which, considering its mana cost, is pretty much out as well. As for the primary, it does too much damage, and again, mana cost would be a major issue...
Maybe on coop, with Tar available to slow the pace and thus help with mana regen, and with another player to spread the mana costs...
But the main issue here anyway is that I haven't found a good way to incorporate the Steam Vent into the killbox. All of my Steam-based attempts have fared rather poorly (read : less than half the score) compared to the final Steamless setup.
Freezing fliers makes them fall into kill boxes and combo.
Does it ?
I haven't run focussed tests on that, but I have tried repeatedly to get that combo point on Hidden Gulch, with no apparent result.
Yeah it does. It's one of the first things I found during the first week I had it. It was just one of those things I figured out then glazed over and forgot about as I trundled through the rest of the mechanics.
Nananea was a huge advocate of this tactic and got it to work far better than I did. She's had several drop in combo boxes on her videos were fliers drop in and combo after being frozen.
Edit:
Perhaps I should clarify - the flying creature gets a combo done to it. As in the flier will combo for x8 etc etc after being frozen and falling out of the sky into a kill box. It acts as a normal grounded creature.
The only one I really had any thought of causing combo damage was the poison ones but I'm unsure of them comboing now. Early on I (amongst many others) believed it did add a combo but now .. now I'm not sure. But this may be an application of poison and slow that we didn't think of earlier which would explain why I thought it combo'd earlier but haven't seen it combo since (especially with the use fo sorc and acid sprayers) but of course this is completely hypothetical.
Hmm ...
Also of note the frozen / chill thing can be tested with freezing vents and a cross bow. Upgrade 'after chill' upgrade then kill an orc that is frozen in ice. It will not combo. Then break an orc out of ice after it is frozen (so it has chill applied) then let it freeze again. Once it's frozen headshot it. You will get x3 combo. For the record it sucks.
Problem with flyers on this map (and most maps with flyers) is that their flight path doesn't align well with the killbox. Plus they detract for getting high combos on all the orcs which are far more numerous.
Perhaps I should clarify - the flying creature gets a combo done to it.
Oh, ok. Indeed, I had understood it the other way. ;)

Well, that was precisely was I was trying to get on Hidden Gulch. ;)
The idea being to use the Warmage and Tar, with dropped flyers as a source of Slow.
Not a convincing attempt...
I'll test it when I get home. Though I'm not sure how I'm going to do that.... haha.
Wow I failed hardcore at my first try on nightmare on Precipice : /
Seeing how great you guys did I don't think it's worth to revisit anytime soon : )
Might I rather humbly present a small improvement of another endless map? : >

I had started playing around that map last week-end, and at 5M was getting somewhere, then I got sidetracked.
Seems you got there first.
Well done ! :)

I'm interested to see what you're doing with this.
Actually it's just one of the standard setups in the long corridor underneath the rift : )
Finally gotten some more co-op done with Juicebags : 3

Interesting score on Corridors. Haven't been able to get this one very high solo. Trap grid is screwed up... can't even do proper filtering.
I've been gone for so long.
I don't know if most of you even know who I am because of it at this point, but bear with me for a moment.
Back when OMD2 came out all the veterans had different opinions and feelings. Me, I thought that this game had a lot of secrets to it. It's huge, open and had so much that we couldn't understand. I wanted one thing above all, to have the community take everything I and other vets were coming up with and explode them into something that we couldn't touch.
These days I can't even probably come in on the radar of the leaderboards, but at one point I had the #1 spot on every map. I shared everything I had with a few people and left it at that. It's gone so ridiculously far, past Qabal, Glenn, Wyatan, Odragon. I don't know who the top contenders are and Rogotin doesn't count. He has special powers, and can talk to the traps.
What I'm trying to say is, as a community, I'm proud of you guys. Still don't think I'm coming back into the game, simply because jeez I can't keep up, but my high score is knowing that the first few pushes I gave and the time I spent making sure this game's combo system worked grew into something awesome thanks to you guys.
For those that don't know. Wardrake was one of the huge inputs that helped me understand the combo system before presenting it. He was pushing high scores before anyone else and when people said OMD2 was not OMD he was one of the few people that understood it's a different game and a different world.

Bah, you could come back on top if you wanted to. Just follow a video crash course, and then get back to teaching us some tricks, I'm sure you still have some up your sleeve. I for one would love to know the Crunch barricade trick you hinted at while playing in Nananea's stream. :P
I believe Odragon and I don't count ourselves out of the game yet, but now we definitely have company, which is great. :)
Well Im not usually the high score smack talker type, but I refuse to let this thread hit the second page! Cheetah and I wrecked some stuff. No screenshots of course because I fail. But we managed to get some #1 spots on Chasm and Twisted Halls today!
Chasm was an unimpressive, unplanned run that just worked out, but we managed to run Twisted Halls up to 15 million +.
Precipice endless... not quite the 100M I was hoping for. Although not even a single 16x... I think it's doable.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=114437984
Yeah I think 100 mio is possible, we just would have had to survive a little longer, we got more and more 14/15x, but the Mages + Crossbows killed my fragile Sorcs : (
Here you go : 3

Glad to see the spike walls working out for everyone. MM209 and I have obviously not been on all week. We're probably not going to be around until there is new dlc or OMD3 comes out at which time we will continue our domination of the leaderboards. Feel free to hit me up on steam. (Strider051)
