Good Computer Configuration?
Yup that’s right I’ve decided to build my own computer, mostly because my current PC cant handle AOEO. The only drawback is that I have no idea where to start, so, if any of you have any useful websites or info you could give me yourself I would highly appreciate it.
A couple things I would like to know
-A good website to order the components
-buy combos or separate parts?
-information that I cant find by searching this stuff on google
-anything you can tell me that I should know
I would suggest not building one unless you know a friend/relative who can come over and help you.
If you still have no idea and no one who can help you on-site: The only thing I can suggest is maybe buying a combo package on a website and then figuring it out using their instructions and helplines. But even with that I would suggest just buying a cheap model to practice with - and that's a few hundred dollars and some people (like myself) would probably be too cheap to do that.
Well I took a highschool class on computer components, but that’s about all I have on my belt. I’ve been doing more research and it seems to easy to be true though. Ill probably follow your plan and get a helper.

It is pretty easy but if you're spending a lot of money to build a good computer - you'll want someone who's done it before anyways just to really make sure you're going about it the right way.
Where do you live? In the US, newegg.com ususally has the best prices on everything.
There are a lot of good assembly guides that people put together out there, also, having someone who has done it before is nice.
What budget? I can play AoEO maxed out on a Pentium 4 3.0ghz hyperthreading and a 9500gt, it shouldn't require much to games pretty decently and easily max out AoEO on any resolution, however, upgrading your current computer may be an option as well because of this.
Well I defiantly want to stay under $1000 I’m shooting for around 600 to 700 for my budget.
I want at least a quad core CPU, I feel six cores is a luxury, and I looked on newegg(Great site luke :D) for good priced motherboard/CPU combos. It seems they are having Black Friday deals this month on the website also.
Yeah, newegg is a great site. Also, if you live anywhere near a microcenter, they have amazing deals on CPUs if you buy them instore. For instance, a $204 processor on newegg is $170 in a microcenter. Also, how soon do you need this computer by? If you don't need it immediately, you could wait for the Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer processors to come out, the newest processors from Intel and AMD. They should be out by December-Febuary. Also, do you need a monitor/OS in the budget? If you don't need either of those, than this would be my reccomendation if you are mostly playing RTS games like AoEO and SC2.

Thank you so much for the items listed above, its over whelming starting from scratch. The graphics card seemed to be a problem for one of the users, and only got 9 ratings but it seems like a great card. I could also always get the $20 1 year guarantee though to be safe.
The time which I would like to have my computer would probably be before AOEO comes out. Could you give some more info on the Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer processors? Do you think its worth to wait for these to come out first?
If you can wait until Sandy Bridge comes out, that is confirmed to be released at the CES in Las Vegas in January 2011, it would be a good idea.
Even if the prices are too high, older components will drop in cost once the new ones are released.
I have picked out a the parts to my new computer (Possibly), and want to see if you guys think this is a good list.
Things you guys could look for would be luxury items, non fitting parts, smart choices on parts.

So what do you think? Is this a good compilation of Parts or can I get some better deals?
I appear to be rather late, sorry about that and I hope you got some help elsewhere.
If not, the 1090t is not great for gaming as the 6 cores and lower clock speed compared to the cheaper x4 amd processors make it slower than an x4 955.
For editing tasks, it's great. Save some money and go for the 955.
The motherboard is good, however you can save money by going with an ASRock 870 extreme3, this still has crossfire support and everything else that the more expensive motherboard has, just at x8/x8 speeds instead of the x16/x16(which only cuts about 1-2% performance unless you are going with absolute top of the line video cards in SLI/Crossfire).
The video card is not so great, it's hot and overpriced for its performance.
The gtx460 is actually faster, however as this is an AMD setup, you will probably want something that can be xfired (2 video cards working together, can produce framerate gains of nearly 100% depending on processor speed, game coding, drivers and other bottlenecks) like a 6870.
Ram and hard drive are both excellent, with 8gb so cheap, you can't really pass on it if it fits in the budget.
The power supply and case are also both excellent choices.
Thank you for posting I thought I was forgotten haha. About the video card, I am having a bit of trouble looking for a good one, mostly because I don't know what I'm looking at for. I heard that I am not able to crossfire on this type of card, and frankly I don't even know what cross firing is. You think you could tell me a little about it?
A couple people I talked to also said that Radeon video cards were not very good. Could you give me some example products that might be good choices?
Again thank you for all of your help :D
Open-box yourself to a better PC.
ATI/AMD Radeon video cards are fine, nothing wrong with them vs Nvidia.
Crossfire is using multiple video cards to improve performance by connecting them to each other. For instance, I could buy 2 6870s, stick them in the pci-e slots and connect them with a crossfire bridge, set up the drivers to use crossfire and then see performance gains of usually 60-100% in most games, depending on how much the games need GPU power vs CPU power and the optimization of the video card drivers and the game's programming to take advantage of this.
For AMD video cards, a 6850 is great value for $180: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125348&cm_re=68...
If you can spend more, I would probably step up to a $300 6950 although in between those two products there is a ~$230 6870 if that would be the best budget fit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125356&cm_re=69...
This is a good guide to choosing video cards:
