Game lagging despite being well abov ...
Hello all,
Just recently downloaded and installed the game, and had no doubt that I would be able to play the game smoothly on the highest settings. Oddly enough, there is very noticeable framerate dropping and stuttering at certain areas of the game. I have only played through the first couple of levels so far, but I notice the lagging most heavily around the rift and going down some hallways. The mouse also lags a good deal overall.
The framerate issues do go away once I turn down the settings to low, but I can't imagine why I shouldn't be able to run the game at its highest settings. Here are some specifications:
Core i7 2670QM @2.2GHz
8gb RAM
Nvidia GeForce GT 555M w/ 4gb vram
I also checked it on systemrequirementslab.com and confirmed that I am well above specs...unless I'm not? I can't imagine that this game should be too demanding. I'm not too heavy of a gamer, but if I can run a game like Borderlands at its highest settings with excellent framerates or Skyrim on high with decent-ish framerates, I should definitely be able to play Orcs Must Die! at its highest settings with no issues at all...right?
I have indeed gone through that thread and unfortunately it doesn't seem like any of those issues apply to the one I'm dealing with. I suppose the issue is that I am having is that the game lags when it shouldn't. Am I correct in assuming that my system should be able to run it at its highest settings? Because if not...well, I guess that would answer that question.
I really have no idea what to do. I guess I'll try and see if reinstalling the game will change anything...
It's often not that useful to compare "I can run X at high settings but not this" because all games are built differently and require different things. For example, we might not be as photoreal as Battlefield 3, but we put sometimes up to 100 enemies on your screen at one time, with many being affected by things like physics-based traps. Your standard shooter doesn't do that. That's just one example.
All of that said, your initial description (around rifts and specific hallways - I'm guessing ones with acid pools nearby) this really sounds like it's related to #7 on the FAQ. But you said you've tried that.
And you've confirmed that your drivers are all up to date? Have you tried simply running at lower settings to see if the stuttering goes away?

Have you gone through the FAQ thread about common problems?
