Game Will Not Start Upon Launch
Okey, I'll try to describe the problem as clearly as I can. When I try to launch the game, the intro movie does not seem to load instantly. Instead, I have to wait around a minute for it to finally start playing. During this time, Windows reports the application as "Not responding".
Next, when I skip the intro movie, it starts loading again, for about 1 minute. When the menu finally loads, navigating through it is extremely slow. I'll give you an example: When I go to the menu item "Characters" (or whatever the devil it's called, don't pin me down on it), it takes a minute to load again.
Now here it gets really tricky: From time to time, for reasons I cannot comprehend, the game works flawelessly. Usually after the first boot of the day. Everything loads fast. The menu is responsive. Etc etc etc... . However, after a random amount of time, the game stops working and navigating through the menu becomes slugish again. Restarting the game will result in the issues I described above. Rebooting my machine does not seem to change it.
I think this could be related to a service in Windows, but I'm not entirely sure (still checking that). To the support team looking into this issue, perhaps you could check the dump files of some us and check if you can find WHAT exactly is making the game stall. Just an Idea.
I use a mac which got parrallels on it to have windows XP.
I tried on another computer but still the same problem.
I believe that there is something to do with the fact that i use parrallels desktop.
You should look it up i believe.
My experience is as follows:-
When I double click on the "OMD2" icon, a black window with a title of "Orcs Must Die 2" in the top left hand corner appears momentarily and a process called "OrcsMustDie2.exe *32" appears on the task manager.
Then the process disappears from the task manager and the window disappears without every displaying anything.
When I launch it from Steam, I get the exact same except a window appears before saying "Preparing to Launch Orcs Must Die 2.."
When I verify the game cache, I also have the "1 files failed to validate and will be reacquired" business...and it never seems to get downloaded.
All my drivers are up to date.
I appreciate that you are working on some kind of a fix..but surely we must have the right to a refund?
My PC easily passes the minimum requirements.

So i finally found out what the problem was for me.
It was the Drivers for the mouse.
I have a Naos 5000 mouse and the HID drivers made the game hang.
After a driver fix i have no problems anymore.
just tried updating my mouse driver (logitech G9x), still no luck
I realize I'm more than two weeks late to this issue, but my girlfriend was having a very similar problem with OMD2. Everytime we tried to launch the game, the screen would flicker briefly, then it would immediately crash with the "stopped responding" message from windows. I tried almost all of the suggestions here. What finally worked was running vcredist_x86 application found in Steam/steamapps/common/Orcs Must Die 2/installer folder. After doing that, when we next tried running the game, it went through the typical first-time-startup install and ran fine. Just a suggestion.
About a month on from this topic, I am aware, but I am still having this problem stated in the above posts. I have gone through Steam support for about a month now, and nothing they have suggested has worked.
I have updated drivers, un-installed, and re-installed both OMD2 and steam about 10 times each (only as Steam suggested it.........), and tried various other fixes that I have found on the net (the .cfg file disabling SLI mode, and various settings in Nvidia etc etc)(even going to the extent of buying any DLC from steam when it became available, to see if the problem was fixed in an update), but still no luck with running this game, it only appears to start, then an instant crash with a windows error.

So again, I know this is abit late, but has anyone managed to find a fix for this at all, or Has Robot Ent. got a specific fix for this at all?
Hello,
My brother had the same problem, it was also the mouse, like Lamm.
Did you try to launch the game with the mouse unplugged? (just to see if it works)
I am having issues with the game starting through steam. i have tried reinstalling the game MULTIPLE times and it continues to not work. When i hit the "play" button i get this message: "Failed to start game (unknown error)" i started geting the message after i downloaded the FIRE AND WATER pack.
Still waiting from the moment this game came out in "July"
I'm just glad I'm getting a new computer..
Did anybody figure out a fix?
I've spent too long trying to fix this for my little brother.
Hi,
Would it be possible to "pin/sticky" this thread as this seems to be a rather concistent issue.
Also, I would highly appreciate if Robot Entertainment would post all known errors and solutions on the launch issue.
BR, Eetzer
Fustrated OMD2 owner
I was having the same issues as everyone else, trying all the possible solutions. (did dl from steam aswell). I was able to get it to work for me by opening task manager, and launching the game and right clicking the process orcs must die 2.exe to open the file location. Then opened properties on the .exe and my read-only was unchecked, so i checked the box for read only then checked the box to run as administrator and then i ran the .exe and it opened up and started to work for me. I'm running windows 7, hp laptop.

Hey everyone -
I can really understand your frustrations here. We all can, and we are continuing to look for fixes. As has been noted above, we've got some fixes out there that are working for some folks. Unfortunately, this is how the process works. We have to be able to reproduce problems internally before we can narrow down what exactly is causing them. Until we know the cause, we can't come up with a solution. We've got the common ones working now, things like file verification, turning off the AlienWare FX stuff, etc. We're going to continue to try to turn up any other causes of this, but until they DO turn up, we don't know what needs fixing.
I can completely understand your frustrations, though. We're sorry it's taking so long on some of your systems, but we do greatly appreciate the patience. We're going to do everything that we can to get as many of these issues resolved as humanly possible.
Thank you for a response :)
