Game Randomly Crashes
I've been able to log about three hours of playtime without too much incident.
Now I'm experiencing random crashing. I've tried to verify the file cache through steam, and it consistantly says 1 file is missing. I've reinstalled directx, as well as the VC++ runtimes. Since it dumps straight back to the desktop, I'm unable to confirm if this is a driver issue (pretty sure it isn't).
I've checked all available threads and have tried to implement all of the tips given to try and get the game running in a more stable fashion.
Computer stats are below.
Athlon x2 6400
6 gigs of ram
Geforce 8800GT (w/newest drivers as of 12-3-12)
Windows 7 64 bit
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
My firewall and antivirus are just the standard ones that come with Win 7. Nothing fancy.
I've tried a fresh install of the game, BTW. I then turned off all anti-virus/active protection/firewalls.
Still crashes. Very frustrated.
Are you sure the crashes happen at pure random? Is there some sort of interval, or minimum time you can play before it crashes?
Did you try turning off what few options there is? all whole 3 video options (..) can be a problem at times, depending on the machine, try turning off anti aliasing, if you crash again, turn off v-sync, if crash again, try lowering details or resolution, if you still crash, I would say the traditional antivirus hiccup, but you seem to have already thought of it.
--Oh, do you use Steam Big Picture? It causes problems with some games.
Thanks for the suggestions Bragdras.
I've tried running it at a lower resolution, with vsych off, as well as low detail. Anti-aliasing was never on. I'm not using Steam Big Picture. Unfortunately, it's all a no go- still crashing.
It seems to be crashing in between the 4-5th wave on The Servant Entrance. I know that I've gotten maybe a wave or two further, but it will crash with regularity while I'm setting up for the next set of waves, or soon after I've let the orcs loose again.
As far as it being a time issue...I guess I can always get out a stopwatch...
Thanks for the help attempt- I'll keep plugging away. Anytime someone from Robot Entertainment wants to chime in, I'd be much obliged...
If it matters, I've also tried to run the game without the steam community overlay- same problem.
I think I may have figured it out- though more testing will be needed.
I basically killed any processes that were unnecessarily running in the background. Then I killed any background services that were obviously unneeded. I've been able to play two more levels forward. Don't know if that was it, or the computer gods are just smiling on my aging rig right now. Who cares? Orcs to kill!
Nope. Problem still present. Kind of out of ideas- anyone have any?

What is your firewall and antivirus? When I first got the game I had the same problem, but it was just my firewall blocking it.
