First HA in-person Tournament - Chic ...
So, I really enjoy the tournament experience here on the threads, but nothing tops the fun of an in-person tournament. I've played many years on the RBI COTUT (championship of the universe tournament). And it's great to meet up with people that are ready to nerd-out over a game together, I'm modeling this tourney after thar RBI COTUt (an NES Game from 1985, probably the best sports game ever made).
The goal here is to really gauge interest. The tourney would be somewhere centrally located like Chicago , and I would organize it. To cover tourney costs (rented space) there would be a small fee ( think like 20-30$), but really the cost would come from your transport to this great city. Couchsurfing dot org is the best way to get free lodging and save some cash.
I think this would probably be a Friday evening to Sunday morning type of event, round robin then double elim tourney where seeds are determined in the round, then the tourney is played out. The games would have timed turns (like 10+ min to make sure there is no shortage of time, but no unnecessary delays) so many games would be had by all.
Ill make sure to make it a proper Chicago experience as well. Great pizza, great dogs, excellent beer (for those of age) and a perfectly executed tournament.
Whos in?? I think 16 commits would make it worth the trip. The RBI COTUTs are consistently the most fun weekend of the summer, this will be even better.
The winner would be crowned CHAMPION OF THE UNIVERSE and I maybe can even get Robot to sponsor a prize if I ask nicely and generate some press (I'm in PR).
Respond to this post of your interested, and what chances you'd have to actually going to something like this.
Are you the guy that floated the idea way back when? If so, kudos to you if you follow through with it. :)
I'm not even in the same hemisphere, so I'm probably not going to take part, but I kinda wish I could! :)
Sounds like fun. I'm already in Chicago, so count me in!
I live in Chicago and would come. If it's open to all skill levels, my son loves stuff like this and would be thrilled to join in (he's only 8, but is surprisingly good for his age).

I'll bring my 8 year old daughter and they can compete in the junior division. :-)
i am from chicago and i would definitely do it!!!!!! my little bro (mini moontz) would definitely do it also
Nope, wasn't me, but I'll take the kudos! You should make a trip of it.
re: the 8 year old, everyone is welcome, the format off the tourney will lend itself well to all skill levels. Plus it's about having fun.
Sounds like a blast! Unfortunately, being a high school sophomore limits my traveling potential. Had you asked about 10 years from now, Id be all in :)
Luigiman, how so?
Last attempt (bump)
Seems like I have my answer :(
I'd be so in if I was anywhere near, grrrr you Alaska
Sorry. :( looks like its online tournies only.. I guess HA is a "play when you're free" game after all!

Pretty much ditto. :)
I have a hard time getting halfway across the country atm.
Luigiman, how so?
Well there's the main issue of how im going to get there. If you eliminate that, theres still convincing the parents to fly me to chicago for a few days to play out a tournament of an online game in a room full of people i met on the internet. Not very likely :/
Damn cant make chicago due to Skool and work ....oh well maybe u guys can televise the matches online. I believe the organizers can do that ?
