Failed to connect to server. Please ...

Hi there. I had purchased a Hero Academy Gold Pack last week and while I have been able to play the tutorial and challenges without any issue whenever I click on the "Play" button I receive the following message. "Failed to connect to server. Please try again later." I have tried the following already:
1. uninstalling and reinstalling the game,.
2. verifying the integrity of the game cache.
3. defragmenting cache files.
4. tried resetting the ClientRegistry.blob on Steam
And still to no avail. I can see leaderboards and Steam friend rankings just fine but I would really appreciate it there is help that I can get with this issue as I've exhausted all general steps to solve the problem.
