Engineer shield breached and Grenadi ...
Here's the scenario: Dwarf vs Dwarf... 5 turns in to a game vs random player.
I have Engineer and Grenadier. Grenadier is shielded by Engineer.
Other player has pre-scrolled upgraded Gunner at entry point.
Their turn -- Two moves, then they are in splash damage range of my 2 units. Gunner takes their scrolled shot and KOs *both* my engineer and my Grenadier in that one AP -- even though the Grenadier was shielded. (Then gunner stomps both of my units. (sad face)
My question: is this expected behavior? I thought the shield offered one extra AP turn while it was "burst open." Other units would take the splash damage from the gunner of course. Subsequent AP could then be used to deal damage to the formerly shielded unit.
If this is the expected behavior then I am surprised I haven't seen it before.
Thanks for any insight. I have posted some screen shots of this happening to help others make sense.

(Note their gunner started on their entry tile so took two moves to get within range of my units.)
I believe this is a known bug. I've also seen it happen from a Chieftan spinning attack.
I'm not sure in your situation whether or not the same outcome would have occurred if the gunner and engineer's positions were reversed, but if that is true than I believe it is part of the bug (not by design).
just like t4k9 said. The bubble disappears when the engineer dies. So it doesnt really make any sense, since before the engineer gets KOed the bubble should absorb the damage at the same time. But it doesnt, the bubble always had a hole in it. The bubble has always had this hole and from the looks of it RE doesnt have any intention of fixing this.
its something that happens very rarely tho :)
But the shield disappears and the grenadier is KOd in a single AP. I thought this was not possible? Engineer goes down, so shield goes down. At the same time the shield is hit by the splash damage. Either way the shield should be toast in that AP. But the grenadier should be unharmed.
If it worked the way I expected it should, what this player did would have taken 8 moves rather than 5.
I may test this in some other scenarios just to be sure.
As for whether they are a lucky noob or a hero academy savant -- I will know shortly as the game continues. ;)
Sorry - wrote my response to t4k9. Now I see the other responses. If it is a bug or unexpected/rare behavior I feel a little better. But I still mourn for my grenadier who was stomped ;(

probably just how they programmed it. The priority of engineer getting KOed and removing the shield is higher than the damage. So its a rare behavior which rarely happens but shouldnt exist. So in the furture be carefull when you fix those bubbles around on your units when the engineer is exposed to AoE attacks :)
There is a thing called a stack. so what happens is the engi dies and she then has to resolve all her actions before any more damage is applied. So the bubble pops next and then damage is applied. Thus allowing the double kill.
Frankly I am ok with this. I don't like dwarves, in fact I hate them and all they stand for
I would like to test when this happens, anyone up for some DW vs DW to test this?
actually its one of the "insiders" for me lol.
Tested this in a few scenarios. Apparently with AOE damage if the engineer is KOd then her shield gets deactivated and the shielded unit takes damage too. I guess I have seen this before but the particular scenario I saw here involved 2 full health units get KOd in one (scrolled) shot. I guess it's like a reward for planning such a move -- sort of along the lines of the train eliminate any unit less than 400hp short circuiting the KO then stomp. Live and learn.
This player is very slow so I don't know if I will be able to assess their skill level for a few days...
Thanks for all of your responses.

Expect to see a video of me on YouTube waving a flag trying to get justice. I had a game recently on the shaolin map with a dwarf who got an opening and second hand with an annihalator and a full set of gear. Before I had the tikes to counter it he had already removed my top crystal and half of my bottom one along with 2 or 3 units (love dem buried healers). A short people genocide is in order. The end needs to be brought to the dwarven menace

Hehehehehehe...yeah, that Speed Boost tile is pretty crazy if you have a good offensive unit draw to start.

Yeah, it's a sad state of affairs when a new team's only OP contribution is it's map.
The Shaolin map has baked-in IMBA goodness if you're the 1st one lucky enough to bite into it - no matter what faction you play. It's just that some teams are better suited to leverage it than others. Your opponent is usually left lappin up crystal crumbs from the floor.

UPDATE: Well this game is going very slowly just 12 rounds in 14 days (my opponent is very slow to make moves) but it appears they stumbled on the move described and shown in my original post. I have eliminated 2 of their swords and a scroll without giving up too much in return. Perhaps it is another brilliant strategy drawing me in (it has been done before) but I hope to get the better of them!

The shield disappears when the engineer is KO'ed. If the positions of your engineer and grenadier are reversed, I believe your grenadier would not be KO'ed from the scroll shot. Your opponenet is either an extremely knowledgeable player or a noob who got lucky.
