Co-op Partner Lag Issues
Hey guys, I bought Orcs Must Die! 2 for myself and a buddy to play online and for the first two days, we experienced relatively little lag, with the connection difficulties screen popping up from time to time for a few seconds. I expected the lag because I live in South Carolina and she lives in Arkansas. Since then, we have experienced less of the connection screens, but it is difficult to track the other player because they lag everywhere, teleporting from location to location and running into walls or pits on each other's screens (even though that's not what happened and eventually we reappear at the correct location to the other person). As this makes coordination very difficult, we both lowered our settings and even reinstalled the game when that failed to work, and we checked to make sure our graphics card drivers were up to date. So far nothing has worked. I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions or explanations as to why our lag experience has changed? This started about 4 days ago.
My computer specs are below:
Brand: Asus, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870, 1 GB dedicated GDDR5 RAM
CPU: Intel Core i7 Q720, 1.6 GHz overclocked to 1.8 GHz
RAM: 8 GB either 1333 MHz or 1600 MHz, can't really remember
My buddy's computer specs:
Brand: Lenovo, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6570M
CPU: Intel Core i7 2630QM 2.0 GHz
RAM: 4 GB, probably 1600 MHz
Thanks for the response. Generally, the colored dots for her on my end vary between 1 (often at the beginning of a match) and 3. As for what she sees for me, I am not certain and should ask her the next time I get a chance. I see 5 dots for myself at all times. No one else uses my internet while I am on it, but I suppose it is possible someone could be leeching off of hers. I can check with her and see if changing the security information helps. Thanks again.
I have the exact same issue.
I have a 50/10 Mbps connection, my partner has 100/10 Mbps... verified with SpeedTest.
Neither of us has any other applications open that could be clogging the connection. We are both on home networks, protected by WPA2.
We even set the same server settings in Steam just to be sooper-dooper sure.
Downloading games on Steam reaches speeds of 5.5 MB/s for me.
I can't see how this could be anyone's fault but your own netcode. If Steam is bottlenecking you then funnel the traffic some other way. I purchased a double-pack on purpose so I could enjoy the coop and I am highly disapointed. You NEED to fix this.

Generally speaking, this would suggest something dodgy on your connection. How many of the colored dots are you seeing under your avatars at the top of the screen? Also, is there anything else using the same connection as you are at the same time? Or your partner? If something's eating up your bandwidth, you could also get this.
