Changes to League Leaderboard Explained
If I advance to the finals of the TF2 tournament, and Trip is the opponent, I'll blog that. I'm sure it would help my play in the game greatly to do it. Lots of work to do first though :)
I have never really went out of my way to challenge the very top people. It takes so much focus that I only have the energy for it once in a while.
Trip, when do you think you'll be back to action?
Realistically, I won't have time for more than a few games (currently reserved for the TOTY and TF2 tourneys) until June. If those two both wrap up before then, I could commit to a series with MW, but based on the current pace of tourneys around here I'm not really optimistic about those odds... ;)
I'd love to challenge trip now that I think about it, and blog it. Trip whenever you're ready ;). (June) Does MW accept open invites. And when blogging a game, do I have to wait till the end right? Does the other person need to be snapping screen shots as well for the resultant post?
When I do put up replay posts, I'll take shots of the turn before and after I make my move, and I'll request that my opponent takes screenshots after each move. This is because while I only use the after screenshots for the post, most of my opponents will occassionally forget to take screenshots, so I can use my screen shots for their turn if they forgot any. =) Hell, I've been doing this for a while, and I still forget myself!
Also, remember to touch the screen when taking the screenshot so that the viewers can see the unit upgrades!
Anyway if anyone wants to record their game and for me to put up a post just let me know! If you have all your screenshots, I don't mind commentating on any random league matches, except that I might not be familiar with non-DE matchups. =)
I can only play one move a day or so, but I wouldn't mind blogging a league game between myself and someone else. I'd prefer that the screenshots not be posted until the game is entirely over, though, to reduce the chance that someone might offer relevant advice on a game in progress. What do you say, masterpiece2 or tabby_nat? Are either of you up for it?
I stupidly updated my league profile and initiated 2 other league games at the same time, and now my little red number is at 16 in the mornings. >.>
That's a bit high for my liking..... STRESS =-_-=
Ikari, sounds good, let's both take screens after each turn and not send them to tabby until the game is over. Wanna challenge me? Also, 3ap start, league match.
Question, when they make balance changes, does it change mid game or for all new games?
It depends. I once recorded a game on the 2 crystal map, before the patch which moved the crystals back. What happened was that the crystals didn't move, but the boost tiles did.
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd guess that with the current patch notes, probably the changes would happen mid-match.
...not send them to tabby until the game is over...
Looking ahead to a Trip vs MW Match, is there some way we can set up make a "game so far" experience for viewers without compromising the game for players, or make it too miserable for them to play.
For example,
- Crop out the hands...
- Players send screenshots to Tabby after each move, but Tabby agrees not to post each move until X moves later...
Would players accept something like these or would it have to be at the end? It would be interesting for viewers to be able to comment as the match was ongoing.

Done. Have fun!
If players wanted, we could do something like that - I did "cast" the GG v Rayje game live, and that was done with both a game delay and redacted hand information. The accompanying forum thread was here. It was very well received (my blog post got over a thousand hits) but I got pretty exhausted at the end. >.>
I'm at my new job now with plenty of downtime during lunch every day, so hopefully this time around it'll go better. =)

Hmmm... personally, I'd rather delay the gamecast until the game is over, and then you/we can cast it with the hand information included. I think that component is very important for understanding a game. You could still roll it out gradually (like, one new turn a day) if you want to have episodic content for the readers.
I would also like to see a commentated replay of Trip vs Monkeywarlock. But it seems like Monkeywarlock has only poached low tier players? He's never faced someone of top tier like aratribal or Trip. So he's the underdog as far as I'm concerned.
I'm not top tier, but I'm working what I hope will be MonkeyWarlock's first loss, in a game we started last October. (Knocks furiously on wood.) He has played a lot of lower-ranked players, but is really quite good! (Probably better than me, at least.)
ditto.
We started our game back in September. He's made no errors as far as I can tell and makes makes what I call high level plays in that they are moves that I don't see or expect and commands the board position. I feel like I'm playing trip in my match and yet another reminder that there is more for me to learn about higher skill play in this game. We've had vast stretches of play where it it is one MW move per 14 days as I gave leniency due to IRL issues. But due to stern ARTNJ comment I've now forced him to abide by the 7 day league rule so now we're at once a week pace for his side. Still I don't want his streak to end due to violation of this turn rule or auto-resign.
Regarding low tier, aka predator status, a large part of it I presume was an influx of challenges when he was starting out but as his streak progressed the stats of his opponents may not have matched his meteoric rise in the leaderboard. Combined with slower than me play style it gets him the predator status.
I don't care how good or bad you are but to have a streak of 44 wins without a loss in the REF league is outstanding due to the random element of HA. If MW gets to playing new games at a quicker pace I'm sure we'll see either superior MW play shine atop the leaderboard defeating the other top tiers or his ELO will trend back down to reality.
Unfortunately for me my best league game hat requires the current stats of Dwarves to remain intact for a possible victory- when they get nerfed during our five month long battle I feel his boosted DE (wraith still in deck...) will rip through my current position for either CK or TKO still at his option. oh well.
Good luck TBKesq! I know you win about 2/3 of our battles against each other. Keep the pressure on, gl hf.
John,
Just to be clear, you can allow someone 14 days if you want. I had another game going 10-12 days a turn that I had a big lead on, and it was kind of annoying me. I mean, if you arent interested enough, dont have enough time, surely you can have the grace to resign a game your getting the tar kicked out of ya. So there I did post a win when my request that he move within the time limits wasnt honored.
I dont actually see how someone can lack the time to move once every 7 days, but have the time to move every 14 (absent one time things like vacation), but you can be more gratious than I would if you like.
By way of aside, I recently declined to take a time win on a game that only gone a few turns -- just treated it as a null. So I kind of play it by ear.

I have often wondered if it really takes the player that long to analyze his options.

That.
Or it takes two weeks on the work-honor program (with good behavior) to earn an hour of WiFi in the prison rec-area.
Haha, I think we need to revive the "Writch for president" slogan.

I do look forward to playing him before too long -- perhaps we can set up a three game series sometime? If he takes at least two out of three against me, he'll have truly earned that top spot of his.
That would be absolutely fantastic.
I don't know what's going on in his personal life; in my first game with him he was playing several moves a day. In our second game it was like molasses stuck on heavy duty glue. But I agree with TBKesq, he is definitely very good and in our two games played quite flawlessly. Something I'm still trying to achieve myself, I can be quite mistake prone.
