Android Status?
I'm not dissing you, Soullord, its cool. But its RE i'm lampooning because they always tease way too early so that it gets everyone worked up when it isn't delivered in a timely fashion.
So nothing personal, aight?
*Put's the flamethrower away*
Sure :)
Hey guys,
I know this topic hasn't been active for a while but I'll leave my two cents here.
I own Hero Academy pretty much since it came out, back in the day when it only had the Council and Dark Elves teams. Well, this is definitely THE most played game on my iPhone. I really, really enjoy it. In fact, I enjoy it so much I even got it on steam in order to have the complete teams set.
I was always a Nokia guy until they lost themselves on the smartphone market. Since the iPhone 4 came out I got one and hold dear to it 'til today. Well, for the first time in my life I'm considering moving to an android-based phone (Galaxy S4). One of the main reasons I didn't move earlier (Galaxy Note 2, for example) is because Hero Academy isn't there.
Yeah, this game is currently really important to me. So important I might choose a smartphone brand simply by its omission beyond ios limits.
I read the android version was being made for more than a year now and I know there might not be resources and/or enough Robot Entertainment members allocated in this project. But I'd really like this port to be made, from a consumer point of view, as I might actually make a phone upgrade and HA will not follow me.
I believe a lot of people might be facing the same thing I am right now, 'cause apple phones are kind of having a hard time to keep up with samsung and other manufacturers (without fanboyisms! I really like apple).
So please, RE, PLEASE, port it to android. I'm sure a whole LOT of people will buy it, even though a bunch might just get it illegally and overload your servers, things will eventually settle down and your fan base will be doubled or even tripled guaranteed!
LeWZ. Your sentiment is shared by many but we can only hope... With lack of news/updates in regards to the android port I don't know if it will happen any time soon. Could still use your iphone as an itouch over wi-fi. =P
Android users, take heart -- check out this recent RE tweet:

HOLY CRAP
I need to get my new player guide ready
Pshaw, you non-lawyers dont get it. "Working on that" could mean anything, including the slow burn thinking about working with an outside partner that they already disclosed. Robot has used lawyer-speak before, so I'm going to hold my enthusiasm.

read again.. there is a word that is important "now".. so from "we have plans for it" .. it got into "now"..
True, but we all have learned our lesson about getting our hopes up...right?

You're holding your enthusiasm, which means you're not letting it drop, right? Soooooo...
I am truly sorry to quash your enthusiasm, but here is what SixOkay said 10 months ago. Tell me, how is this different? Hint: its not

It may be that the work is actually at a vastly different stage. Certainly the last concrete statement about soliciting an external partner to handle the android conversion, was the most specific, ever, and provided reason for optimism. But the current statement is not specific, and amounts to nothing without further clarification.
I'm sure what SixOkay would say is that its hard to make public statements that dont get misinterpreted, and with the benefit of hindsight the original statement I quoted should not have been made, but that it was made it good faith at the time. I 100% believe all that. Not saying they are bad guys at Robot, or that they dont try to communicate accurately. Just saying that we need a *specific* statement before we get our hopes up.
So please, RE, PLEASE, port it to android. I'm sure a whole LOT of people will buy it, even though a bunch might just get it illegally and overload your servers, things will eventually settle down and your fan base will be doubled or even tripled guaranteed!
We are. We're just having to do a lot of squashing of bugs and the like to make sure that it works with all of the different systems (different store, wide variety of devices, etc). Honestly, you can blame me for the silence. I don't want to go announcing anything specific until we know for sure what's happening and when. But take heart - the testers sitting at the next desk over from mine are digging through it and talking about the build as I type this. As we said before, if we have to make the decision to not pursue the Android version, we will for sure let everyone know. If we're quiet? Well, in this case, the silence means we're still moving ahead. I'm sure it's frustrating not to have any real updates, but I really do appreciate your patience. We want to get it out to you as soon as we can, but we also want it to meet the quality standards that we held the game to on previous platforms.
Now thats specific! Cool!
So Robot changed gears and tackled Android in house, or your testing a build crafted by a partner?

Yes.
;)
To be launched with a new robot themed team?!?!
First of all, Thanks for giving us it more clearly now, cant wait to spam friends, to tell them it comes onto android! :D
If we're quiet? Well, in this case, the silence means we're still moving ahead.
Well.. Sadly I experienced it mostly the opposite :( e.g. weewar.com no real progress over a year. So we are really happy for any news , peeks and so on. I thought companies got that already. I already was scared, you were starting to let hero academy fall into eternal sleep, but I am happy, that it's not so.
<koolaid man>
OH YEAH!
</koolaidman>
any hopes to get it on blackberry IOS ?
By the way for the Iphone users is it worth to have it on the iphone? I usually play it on the ipad so not sure about how good it is on the reduced screen size.

Reduced screen size is not the real issue. This isnt an action game, the look and controls are totally fine on the iphone. Better on the ipad of course, but its not a big deal.
The real issue is that if your an ipad guy, maybe your only playing on wifi now, and going from wifi to 3g is sometimes quite a drop off in load speed. If your in an area with good 3g, HA is only slightly less fast to load, and it isnt much of an issue. However, as your signal gets weaker, the speed really drops quite a bit, and there will be places where you can have a phone call where you cant really play HA without getting frustrated with the load speed. Some of the other async games seem to do an at least somewhat better job dealing with dicey 3g.
Its really just a question of where your going to be, and whether you would like to play HA there. If so, you may as well try it and see how it goes.
I thought 3g was a decent speed still thanks for the input I'll give it a try.
Gamers are happy to hear to "we'll release it when it's done." It's far better than the alternative of "we'll release it even if it sucks." Up until yesterday though, we didn't even know the Android port was in active development. I can't speak for everyone, but that's all I wanted to know; so thank you for that. I don't even own an Android device, but I'm glad to know you guys haven't abandoned Hero Academy… I was pretty sure you had.
I'm also glad to know that somewhere down the line (whenever it's ready) I'll have some fresh meat to play against.

It was mentioned, about 2 months ago, I think in the Game of the Year article. But of course, we robot forum flies have the patience and attention span of a styrofoam cup on a BBQ.
Good news. Thanks, 6ok. I am not big on Android, but more players is more good.
more players is usually better

Thanks for the answer! I really appreciate it!
I'm moving to S4, even though there's a small chance the android port won't make it. I'll take my chances after what I read.
Thanks a lot SixOkay!!!
Update: Very, very close.

Oh, snap!
Update: Very, very close.
SixOkay, is it weird that a Hero Academy Android release will play a factor in a potential decision to move from my iPhone in November when my 2 years are up?
You'll know well before November. And no, that's not weird at all :)
Will there be balance changes with or before Android, or no?
Just asking because it would be nice to have updated guides packaged for the flood o' noobs.
Art always thinking of others while creatively satiating his curiosity. You sly dog you..

They're working on it. It might be the next update but nobody knows. It will come soon(tm)
What are you smoking Red? They havent said anything about Android in at least 8 months as far as I know. They get asked on Facebook, Twitter and this forum, but they never say anything at all.
It could be coming soon. Or never.
I remain optimistic
Redexoskeleton. That's my name in game. Challenge me if you like (I am slightly above average) be sure to mention if it is a friendly or league game
