[ASK] Mechanic question
Hello,
I wanna ask, if I have a unit on my spawn tile and that unit got killed by monk(or any other unit), can my unit get stomped since step on enemy tile isn't possible, but I know Ninja can stomp unit on their spawn tile(not sure about the others). Sorry for bad english.
Aww damn, thanks for quick answer.
Anyway, just wondering can I have your SteamID(only if you played Steam version though)? I just get into this game and I liked it so far. I have a lot of mechanic stuff to ask, this games lacks explanations, some unexplained mechanic stuff like how Chieftain can charge 4 tiles cost me a game sometimes.
Almost every possible mechanics question is answered in Hamlet's thread, which is the first linked thread in the stickied New Players post.
A unit from the opposite team is not able to step on the opponents spawn tile. You can however still stomp them but instead of stepping on the tile, the unit wipes the dead body from the field. It cost 1 action point just like any other action.
One point of clarification: the unit must be directly adjacent to the knocked out unit to stomp the spawn tile, (i.e., a unit 2 tiles away cannot do the stomp without moving closer first, even though they'd normally be able to move and stomp from that distance.)

That has messed me up several times. I think it isn't consistent with the rest of the game and should be fixed. Make it either so you can't stomp them on the square at all, or you can stomp them but the stomper stays her own square.

As in, allow a ranged stomp with any attack, just because the KOed unit is on their spawn tile? I would argue that this is even LESS consistent with established mechanics.
What I don't like about it is the extra AP you need to get right next to it and then smack the corpse away. You should be able to do that from 2 tiles away if the unit has a range 2 attack (which most do).

And units with a range 3 attack? Would they be able to stomp at range as well? What about units with a range 1 attack, but range 3 movement? There's simply no way to keep the normal stomping mechanic with a "protected" square like that, and allowing range stomps would basically make spawn tile placement incredibly risky. I think it makes sense to make stomps possible, but more difficult (certainly not less), on spawn tiles -- it is their home base after all.

Yeah, I understand it's designed that way on purpose, to protect the home base and all. It's just another mechanics inconsistency of the game that you have to learn. It's illogical that you aren't able to stomp when you regularly would just because the unit is standing on the deploy tile.
BTW, I meant to type range 2 movement, not attack. I won't edit it since you quoted it.
What if they allowed stomping on it, with the risk that the next unit deployed there would stomp it upon entering (obviously if the turn ends with the unit standing on the deploy tile)?

I don't think it's illogical to prevent typical stomping, given that your units are never allowed on enemy spawn points. The inconsistency lies in allowing any stomp at all, but I don't think the current solution is all that hard to accept. To me, allowing units to stomp on enemy spawns, only to then be insta-stomped by an arriving enemy hero would be WAY more surprising and counter-intuitive to the new player. Can you imagine all of the complaints we'd be seeing?
FWIW, if you're REALLY irritated by that, play DE - all our attacking ranged units can either range stomp, or pulls the corpse off the spawn tile. And the handy handy wraith can spawnstomp on your opponent's spawn tile too!
I agree with the mechanic the way it is now. If a unit is CONSIDERING stomping a spawn tile, they are waaaay to close. Requiring them to spend another ap to stomp is an exellent way of persuading them back to their side of the map, or decide if its a worthy sacrifice.

A new player learns that to remove units off the board you have to stomp them, that's part of the game's logic. As a new player I found it illogical when I couldn't stomp on the deploy tile, especially since there is no physical barrier preventing it. Perhaps I was the only new player to feel that way, but I doubt it. But this isn't even worth discussing though, it's rare for this mechanic to negatively affect your game.

Tabby, you know I play DE :). But I don't know if you're just joking here. Impalers can't pull corpses (if you meant bodies, then that's not a ranged stomp), the only ranged stomps available are by the necromancer and wraith deploy.
There IS a barrier preventing it -- none of your units can go on the enemy spawn, whether or not they are trying to stomp! That seems 100% consistent to me. If you can't go onto a tile without a corpse there, why in the world would you be able to go onto it just because there IS a corpse there? Again, the only inconsistency is in allowing a spawn stomp at all.
Tabby's point was that impalers can drag units off of spawns before they are corpses, making the issue irrelevant.

If its the killing blow then I believe that the kill technically happens at range and then the corpse is pulled 1 space closer.
I wonder how this would be affected by the shaolin shadow. Would you just end up stomping the opponent instead of resurrecting them? Hmm...
I would guess it'd be like the phantom, which can be raised on an enemy spawn point but which gets instakilled if the enemy decides to spawn there.
