We're Just Getting Started
Hello again. It’s been a while since we last talked. Now that we’ve got the new website up, that’s going to change. Since we put the new site up about a week and a half ago, you’ve all been kind enough to sign up and take it for a test drive. And we’re glad you did! Thanks to you guys, we’ve already started making updates to the site. We’ve been fixing bugs and improving various little features. And we’re not stopping any time soon.
We’re currently doing a little under-the-hood work, but soon we’re going to begin work on some great profile improvements, as well as adding and improving forum features. Is there anything you’d like to see? If so, be sure to let us know over in the Suggestions Forum.
I also wanted to thank everyone for their amazing enthusiasm over in the “Wild Speculation” sections of our forums. It’s been fun reading all of your thoughts about what we’re working on.
One question that I continue to see coming up is what Ian Fischer is up to at the Gamesauce Conference in Seattle next week. Well, he’s not going to be announcing our next game, as many of you are speculating. I just wanted to get that on the table. What he is doing, however, is giving a great presentation. It’s about the future of the gaming industry. In it he compares the first 60 years of games to the first 60 years of films to support the idea that despite the game industry’s immense accomplishments, we’re only just starting to get really serious about making games. If you’re interested in the presentation, I’ll see if we can snag a video of it, or perhaps make a blog post out of it. Let me know in the comments.
That’s about it for this week, but keep your eyes peeled. We’re already jumping on the forums a ton, and you’re going to get a lot more blogs coming up soon, including a really cool Art Blog theme in a few weeks!
Til next time…
- J

Thanks Justin for the update.
Thanks Justin for the update. I can always count on you for updates (:
Thanks for the update!
Anyway, since you enjoyed the "wild speculation," can you at least throw us a bone and let us know if someone nailed down what game 1 is, if we are on the right track, or if no one is even remotly close? The forumns are fun, but I do see if getting boring over time if we are not given new info on your games to discuss. All the major topics have been / are being talked about......
Can you let us know if an announcement has at least been planned? Do you guys have a goal yet as when you will announce your games (or have MGS do so), and a goal for a release date? If you are just starting to get really serious about making games now, that kind of sounds like that you guys havent been doing much since Feb of 2009.
Im all honesty, I think you guys owe everyone a little info. At least as a thankyou for being as patient as we been over the past few years, for the support we showed this company, and our dedication for helping you guys get the forumns moving. Looking foward to Ian's talk on Monday and hoping some news follows in very near future.
Video? Yes please!
If you could get a video of Fischer's presentation that would be great. If not... Let's just try and get that video
: )
Thanks for the update :D GL in the conference
Thanks for the update Justin!!! I hope Ian will have fun with the others devs in the conference and he comes back, he could come on the forum and tell his adventure :D And if you can pls show a vid :D
I'm curious of seeing the
I'm curious of seeing the presentation myself, I didn't know video games were 60 years old, there might be much to learn from it. If you guys would upload it, it would be great. The comparison with the movies must be interesting as well.
Rvette83Â - I assure you that
Rvette83 - I assure you that we've been working hard on something since February of 09. And yes, we do know when we'll be announcing now, but I can't give you specifics, obviously. I assure you that nobody witholds information just for fun. As soon as we can tell you more, we're going to.
Thanks for the update!
Justin - Thanks for writing back!
I brought up what I did because it seems that every time someone within the company posts they keep saying that something will be heard soon. If you read through the old formns someone from Robot said back in Sept of 09 that an annoucemnet will be in a mater of months and not years. That tells me we will hear something by Sept of 10, because then it will be a year. Also in your interviews with age sanctuary, you guys tell us an announcment will follow soon, and this was in Feb of 10. So everytime a major event pops us like E3, or even the Gamesauce Conference, everyone thinks its finally time for a announcement only to be let down time and time again. This is not to say that I didn't enjoy Ian's talk eariler today, but an announcement would also be awesome.
Most of us understand that if you guys are moving the AOE series along, that Microsoft will need to make the announcement. That may have been why you wrote as soon as you can tell us more you will, and this is well understood.
I appreciate you writing back, and hopefully we all hear some news soon!
SixOkay we understand
Justin we understand its not your fault or any other person... its just you guys aint ready for it... myself i understand and i cant wait for it to be Announced... will you guys make a official presence on GAMESCOM?
Rvette83 - You're right.
Rvette83 -
You're right. Some of what we've said in the past has probably been a bit frustrating, and I'm sorry about that. The best explanation I have is that sometimes things change and get moved around in the game industry. Most industries, really, but I can only speak for gaming. :) Obviously we're eager to tell you guys about our games. As eager as you are to hear about them. But as has been pointed out before, it's never simply up to how much we want to tell you. There are lots of reasons around the timing of announcements. As I've mentioned before, we really appreciate the patience the fans have shown for this, and I really think it'll all be worth it when we do in fact get around to announcing. Thanks again!
Thanks for the update!
NP Justin.
I'm of the opinion that this "hold-up" for the annoucement has a lot more to do with Microsoft Game Studios than it does Robot Entertainment. If you guys are making AOE 4 (a big if), and there is some info out there that supports this. (Good job MGS if this is true :-)) Assuming that this is the case, MGS would have to make the announcement. They are free to move the date around at will.because it is their property, their game. MGS has said time and time again that that are comitted to new games for windows even since Ensemble closed, but havent annouced a stand alone game for windows since then. I think the 2nd AOE 3 expansion was the last stand alone game for windows made by MGS back in 07. MGS also said with Fable III's Windows announcement that they will have more news for us this summer . Can you guys at Robot keep the heat on MGS to make sure that they come through time. I'm assuming at E3 the spotlight had to be on Kenect, so they left out the Windows titles, but they can't forget about us!!
Anyway I always look foward to hearing from you guys, as your interaction with the community has been nothing short of excellent.
What happened to Ian
What happened to Ian Fischer's video for Gamesauce Conference?
Sorry I haven't updated. I
Sorry I haven't updated. I posted about it on our Twitter account (@RobotEnt). The Gamesauce folks are working on getting all of their video together and have told me they'll send it over when it's ready. It should be about another week or so.
@ SixOkay
That's a rather long wait for a video to be cut together... I suppose they have a lot of work to do though. Well, just let me know first when it is up. Thnx.
Well, they're working on some
Well, they're working on some new video solution for their whole site, and will be releasing it with that.
