Superhero Theme Pt. 9: Emma Frost
Man, this has shaped up to be an incredible theme. I know it’s likely pretty easy for just about any artist to get excited about superheroes…. but, I’m really proud of all of the artists putting forth so much effort into this one, there is some really amazing stuff to look at.
I can remember from middle school on, drawing nothing but superheroes. My original goal was to get into comics, but when I finished school, I found the games industry calling. It was new and exciting, and really beginning to explode, so I imagined it would be just as creative of an outlet, and it was.
Of all of the superheroes comics, I would have to say that X-Men have always been among my favorites. So when the ‘Superhero’ theme came up, I only needed to pick which character I would actually focus on since I’ve been a fan of so many of the different heroes that have worn the ‘X’ on their uniform.
Additionally, I always wanted to create an image of the White Queen. I really like how so many different artists have portrayed her (over the last decade especially), so I wanted to give it a shot.
When I started, I realized that I was unconsciously emulating some of those previous renditions of the character from some of my favorite artists, namely Adam Hughes. The pose even ended up pretty close to a statue that was based off of one of his images. I really liked where it was going though, so instead of restarting from scratch, I decided to push the style a bit and take a much more graphic approach to painting/coloring it.
I hope you guys enjoy it.
