GI Joe Wrap-Up (Part 8)
I’m blown away by the participation from the artists for the G.I. Joe theme this last month. The artists really, really stepped up for that one. We got multiple artists participating for the first time on the blog, and Paul did 2 posts! That’s crazy! I had every intention to just post a past illustration I did a couple months back when the movie was coming out in the summer. Now it seems weak, but I still will.
But I was so inspired by all of the participation that I had to step up to the plate. Additionally, I guess I am also inspired by girls in tight leather outfits, since I did another Baroness image… but whatever drives you to get something done : ) I started out with a quick big brushed silhouette in Photoshop to get the form. I then used that as a base to draw a sketch. You can see the sketch here.
After that, I cleaned up the shapes and blocked out all of the colors and then started layering in the paint. It’s a pretty long process for me since I don’t get to paint to often, but I really wanted to post something new. It was over the last week or two, I worked on painting during lunch hours and after work. Here is the final.
This was a great theme, and a great range of stuff to see from the variety of artists. I work with such a great group of talented and inspiring guys, and I’m really glad that they stepped up and we were able to share this stuff with you guys that come by the site.
But now G.I. Joe is done, it’s time to look ahead. We have talked about our next theme project and it’s the last theme for 2009!
Saturday Morning Cartoons.
We will start posting the beginning of December, and wrap it up before the holidays.
I also wanted to address some of the comments from the theme:
Misterdot: We cannot give any specifics about a game getting announced, but when we are ready to talk about it, you will find out about it on Robotentertainment.com, I promise.
Starwind: Well said : )
Spango: I may have missed all of your comments. We do not own the properties of Age of Empires or Age of Mythology, it would be odd for us to host a competition for that since it’s a Microsoft property. I can add it to our list of internal themes to choose from.
Giacomo: Thanks for the comments, and I will add “The Gladiator” to our list of theme to choose from, thanks for the idea.
Grand Poobah: As for creating games more focused on the hardcore PC market. I don’t know what to tell you except that we’re creating stuff that we’re really, really excited about.
As for the comments of us possibly being owned by Microsoft, we are all free people and Robot Entertainment is not owned by Microsoft or anyone else for that matter.
Giacomo: Chris is sworn to silence about anything that we’re working on, and will not tell you even though you said that you like his artwork : ) In all seriousness, I feel bad guys, I see a lot of familiar names on here, and that just goes to show how excited you guys are about hearing about what Robot Entertainment is up to, and that really inspires us, and keeps us going. Hang in there, there will be information coming.
Grand Poobah: That’s some awesome music, it’s near and dear to a lot of our hearts here at Robot. Not to mention, it still holds up amazingly… even after 11 years.
Dswal: Thanks for the well wishes. About a newsletter, that is something that we will definitely do when there is more information being had on a regular basis. Until then, the blogs and RSS feed are the way to get the up to the minute info at Robot Entertainment.
Rigormortus: I get your excitement about the Age franchise, I really do. I’m a huge fan of the game myself. AoE was my addiction, I played daily all the way through Rise of Rome, it was only to be replaced by Age 2 and actually working at Ensemble Studios. But Microsoft owns the Age of Empires series, and decides everything about that franchise, including any announcement about its future.
Grand Poobah: ‘the artists are its lifeblood’. I dig that. Thanks for the nice comments. We will add Ancient Empires to the list of themes.
Sean: We’ve added Transformers and Civil War to the list of themes.
James1984: ha ha, you don’t even dance around the requests to see something about the next project any longer : ) I can honestly tell you guys that we don’t mean to frustrate you guys with the lack of that information about our projects. It’s great seeing you guys frequent the site, and talking about your passion in games and specifically in our case on Art Bot Central, the artwork.
Misterdot: It’s still months away before we’ll have more information on our projects.
It was great catching up with you guys again, I’ll talk to you again in a couple of weeks.

Kube, Thanks a lot for your patience and for your answers.
I really hope you are going to announce your project soon. In this way we could give you our suggestions on your project.
Hey Kube, I really appreciate you getting back to all of us like that. In an age of mass consumerism, some developers don't seem to respond at all to their fans (i.e. Infinity Ward), but so far it seems like you guys won't have that problem. :)
If you're excited about your project, then so am I, and I'm also equally excited about any potential ancient empires themes. :P
hey, thx for the reply! So does that meant AoE is dead, or that MS will continue AoE, but from some other guys?
Great work!
Thanks for replying to us to are answers. I really do hate other company's that don't reply to their fan's. (: Is there going to be more blogs from the programmers, life at Robot etc... Cause I would really love to see what the others are doing from day to day. Last thing is there any way of getting a robot shirt or a hat or even pens?
Talk to you guys later
-Sean

That Baroness looks damn hawt! :D Bloody brilliant artwork on display here by everyone I must say. I sure am glad you guys are giving us giving us a glimpse into your talent pool while we wait for the games you have in store for us! :)
I've been an Age fan since the very beginning... We even had a couple of AoE fan-sites back in the day. If its alright, I'd like to share some of those links with you:
1. The Age of Empires Union (tinyurl.com/b34pj): The site in its current state.
2. The AoE Union in its heyday: tinyurl.com/yhppvo9
Keep up the good work guys! ^_^
Hey, thanks for replying to me first!
This is a really promising studio IMO, already showing this nice fan support... Good luck with all current and future projects!
Its great to hear a response Kube. =D
The talent the artists possess are great, and I am looking forward to more. It is always great to delve inside of an area to see what goes on behind the scenes or just as a hobby, either way.
Could you draw a oil platform ? 2 point perspective from air ore ground, shades,no colors,A3 format.
because that's my homework and i'd like to see what you guys come up with.
thanks for that great info
Nice post, thanks for sharing this wonderful and useful information with us... baju korea gaul
