GI Joe ( Part 1 )
What's up guys? Looks like I'll be the first to post an image for our GI Joe theme. Like most of us here I'm a huge fan of the old cartoon and was very excited to work on a GI Joe themed project. I don't have a lot of character experience so I decided to make a vehicle. I looked through a lot of the reference from the cartoon and toys and discovered the vehicles aren't nearly as cool as I remembered. I decided on the Cobra Wolf. It's one of the cooler looking vehicles and I found a ton of good reference for it.
Here's a link to the reference so you can see what the original toy looks like:

For the most part I tried to stay faithful to the original toy. In the end I did add some details and change up a couple of the decals to make my version a bit cooler. I'm sure GI Joe fans will forgive me. I was recently playing around with the ink and paint shader in Max and decided to use it on the Wolf. I was really happy with the results. I think it complements the cartoon and toy theme of GI Joe.
Here's a work in progress image:
Around the same time we started our GI Joe theme the guys at cghub.com had the same idea and started their own GI Joe 3D challenge. I figured I would kill two birds with one stone and entered the challenge. In the end there were around 15 final images submitted for the challenge, most of them characters. I didn't win but did make runner up. Hooray! King of the losers. :)

It was a blast working on this and I hope I'm able to contribute to our next art theme. Until then I'll be grinding away here at Robot.
Stay tuned for more GI Joe posts from the team.

Wow, I wish I could do that kind of stuff. Great job and can't wait for more.
WOW very nice dude for making runner up. What can you say? You can't always win but you can always have fun doing what you love. Can't wait to see more :)
I'm glad you guys have a hobby outside of developing the game. I like the renderings/art work pretty cool stuff, I like doing that kind of thing as well in my spare time.
...you know what I want to say/ask, so I'll refrain haha. :P

Yes!first post~
Cool vehicle, even though i haven get my hands of some G.I.Joe toys. Wish that more upgrates will come very fast, thx for the work!
This theme sucks! Try a Barbarossa one
Fantastic its snake-eyes and the baroness 3d. Please, I beg you, as a fan of GI Joe, you make a Storm Shadow with a futuristic costume, similar to Snake-Eyes, but without sleeves, with a costume like dressed and showing the muscles, the same the garments of rubber. Maybe even in poses of ninja training. Thanks, a fan of Brazil.
