Great News!
I can't believe it, finally we're back to the epic fight ages, I signed up for the beta immediatly, I hope I get accepted ( fingers crossed )
Thank you Robot Entertainment for keeping the dream alive, we grow up with this game as kids and we will continue to support it.
I love the new graphics direction, Everything is clear and sharp, you can easily distinct units and buildings, Kudos to the artists.
Looking forwards to learn more about features, gameplay, and more, also can't wait for the first RE IP to be anounced.
Good luck you guys, keep up the awesome work.
Amazing!
Paladin is indeed right. I was just playing with 4 of my friends on AoEII yesterday and I can tell right now that it felt f*cking great.
Love you guys!
P.S. The beta site is down?
OMG OMG OMG!!! A new Age of
OMG OMG OMG!!! A new Age of Empires :D
Looks like a lot of fun, I hope I get into the beta :D So excited about a new AOE coming out.
Something Needed
After sleeping on it -
Simply put it was a step the franchise needed to take or else it would have slowly died. I'm not saying this is an automatic success or hit - just that the type of game, the persistent world, the social environment seems to be what attracts new players.
Anything previous to this game in the franchise was more of a hardcore game - they were awesome games and sold well, but the market is changing and I feel that Microsoft recognized it and has come out ahead of the gates.
I'll sign up for the beta, hope I get accepted and we'll see how Age of Empires makes the transition to a more social/persistent game.
Boo
I don't like it
Why
The graphics, I mean why? The old age of empires hade 100 time better graphics you should have improved not make it like I'm watching a cartoon, and not a very interesting cartoon!
Hmm...
The graphics remind me of Civilization mixed with Age of Empires. I guess it could be ok if it still has the same core gamplay, but the Capitol city feature sounds pretty cool.

aug 17, 2010. The day AOE
aug 17, 2010. The day AOE died.
Awesome News!
This franchise essentially introduced me to PC gaming growing up and also sparked my interest in history. Hated it when Ensemble Studios got dissolved - felt like a piece of my childhood was being destroyed. Hard to describe how one develops nostalgia for an RTS franchise and a development studio, but you guys pulled it off.
Few thoughts:
One main concern - the mandatory online requirement. I think the questing, leveling up and having a persistent capital city will be cool. It's creative and gamers love tangible achievement/progression. Smart business move, and it'll be fun. As for longtime Age fans, or at least for this one, I don't always feel like having to be placed in a social setting to play Age. I realize there will be single player quest lines, but what if you're just in the mood to play a few 1 v 1s vs. the AI? Will that not be possible? Persistent city aside, will I be able to start up a quick match with varying difficulty, on a map of my choosing against the comp?
Don't get me wrong, the social features built into this game sound cool. I'll often be in the mood to get online, connect with friends and either co-op or PvP. But what if I'm not? My only option will be single player quests?
I'm not entirely clear how that will work.
Regardless, long live Age! Bless you guys for carrying it on. This is going to please a lot of folks.
Sadly, gotta agree with FUZER
This is a kick to the balls of everyone that supported you. This farmvillized AOE is a shame, a disgrace. And if that wasn't enough, it comes with the POS that is GFWL. Someone at Microsoft is laughing right now. The "3-pronged approach" is a sham, it contains everything that is wrong with PC gaming right now, beginning with Microsoft.
We expected so much more from you, guys. It didn't have to be AOE4, but this... this... I don't have words to say how disappointed we are.
They deleted my post.
what a shame, RE.
:)
Nice :)
VERY DISSAPPOINTED!
This is really crappy =( If I wanted an mmo I'd go play WoW or LotR or even Ceaser IV. RTS games are the only type of games that 90% of Aoe players play, why would they give up over half of their dedicated fans to "try" and lure a few MMO players?
But, I'm at least going to give it a try. Hopefully I can get the Beta and actually like the game. I'm a dedicated :Age of" fan of 10+ years so, again, hopefully I will like this game when I get the beta.
Epic Battles are back
Lets Do this! Age of Empires Is back to give us some EPIC momments in EPIC battles... ROCK ON RE!
Very Nice
Thanks to you guys, we'll continue playing !
I would have prefered an Aom II or Aoe 4, but no problem... this one seem to be nice :D
Could you tell us about the date ? I heard 2011... (remember that we'll all die in 2012, so let us play before :D !!)
so exited
well i signed up now im just w8ing for confirmation email right? well let me just say i really hope that elements of aom will be included , ancient Gods magic and stuff, keep up good work
To all the pesimistic people
To all the pesimistic people who replied negative thoughts so far, I don't understand why you are saying this franchise died or is dying, it doesn't make any sense, the whole reason why we like the Age Of Empires series it's because of it's historical element, epic fight scale and economy management which is the most fun anyone can get, so let's see mmm, does this new game have an historical element, yes it does, does it have the possiblity to play matches with your friends and see those crazy fight scenes with all the dying screams and demolished buildings, yes it does and most important of all, does it have the economy management and resource collecting, yes yes it does, so snap out of it and stop been a synical, so they changed the graphics direction, so they made it free, so what, It's still going to be a fun game, which is what games are all about.
Just embrace it, change is always hard to absorb, but maybe if you get to play the game you'll change your mind, I'm waiting to give it a try and even if I don't like it, I wont be mad because the makers still gave us great games before, so I wont go ahead and bash them right in their face like you guys do, it just makes you sound unappreciative of all the hard work they have done before.
Oh and also just because they decided to take the franchise to another level and make it more accessible to alot of new players, doesn't mean they don't have plans for future Age Of Empires games that have giant campaigns the likes of what they did the passed couple of years, that's still possible and is an added bonus, I'm just happy that the franchise is still in the hands of the creators, just imagine if after ES desolved MS decided to give creative control to some other dev team that didn't have the experience that RE has, it would probably be a disaster, then I would be with you if you protested it, only then.
Thank you!
I'm looking very forward to this new AoE I have collected all of them so far along with AoM. I'm still a bit surprised with why the graphics are different but who knows they could be better than the old. I hope that you will continue with the other promised AoE's like four and five. Plus I think it might be pretty cool to be able to get a collectors edition for this game which I hope might come out but either way AoE and AoM plus Halo Wars will always be my favorite games!
resources
i realy hope it wont hv only 3 reosurcers like aoe 3. That was very disapoitning at the time that they cut off stone like in aom or aoe 2. in fact i hope we will hv more then 4 reources. and i really hope it will have some city builing elements like ceaser or settlers.
Again
What a shame.
HOW I CAN BUY IT????
The Age of Empires online will be only avaible on download????
Or it will be avaible in DVD as well?????
Please, come in DVD!!!!!!
And when it will be avayble to buy????
some one, anwser me, ok?
OMG YES! WHERE IS THE BETA
OMG YES! WHERE IS THE BETA DOWNLOAD?!?!?!?! I HAVE TO TRY ROBOT'S NEW GAME
It's still too early to judge
Many valid negative and positive points, and I agree with some of them. But, this is obviously "wait and see" time.
I'm just glad to see that AOE didn't disappear, which is what I was beginning to fear over the past couple of years...
Looks great!
As an ol' time Ager, I'm really looking forward to trying out AOE Online - very exciting news!
Try to write something
when?
ok ppl does any1 know when beta will start at least aproxamitly? in a month , 2, 3? im afraid it wont be soon. Admins pls answer. thx.
Gutted.
Dear Robot Entertainment,
The first thing I done when I got home from university today, was logon to RTSsanctuary, (formerly Agesanctuary.com) which is something I do everynight. Infact, i've helped run the network for the past six years and have been a follower of the Age series for approximately 10 years. I literally worshipped the game to the point of hagiography and checked this website everyday in anticipation of a new RTS 'Age of' franchise that the whole world has been waiting for. What I did not expect, was Robot Entertainment, the successors of Ensemble Studios, one of the greatest game producing studio of all time, to veer away from a genre that is trademark and has provided you with so much success over the years. As I began reading the news about it, I had to check my calender to make sure that April had passed. I was sure that this was an April fool's joke. To my disbelief, we were in August. I still hold on to the hope that this is a very belated joke.
Economically, this makes sense. The gaming world is changing. As the music world moved from classical to teachno/trance, the gaming world must adapt to the market also. This is done by maintaining RTS as the 'core' genre, but adopting MMO aspects to attract a growing demand. Problem is, the entire 'Age of' series has been built upon the very foundations of a loyal fan-base. I would have been under the impression that retention of such loyal fanbase would be paramount to any company and that a game can be built around such a community. However, this proposed game, I can predict, will alienate majority of that fanbase. The last game you guys brought out was Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasty in 2007. That's 3 years that fans have waited patiently for a game that was to never be. You open forums on the Robot Entertainment website for "wild speculation". May I ask, how many people were wildly speculating and drooling at the prospect of an RTS/MMO? One glimpse in those forums and all I can read are 'Age of Mythology 2!", "Age of Empires 4!" and "Age of Conquerors remake!". My question to you is why try to fix something that was never broken?
I'm sorry for ranting. I'm a huge fan of everything Ensemble Studios have done. But it's for that very reason - because I am proud of what the company has achieved over the years and am delighted to play any title they release, that I am disappointed. Please don't take this the wrong way, but as someone who has watched the company very closely over the years, I feel like Robot Entertainment have resigned themselves to Blizzard. What do I mean by this? I feel that Robot realise that Blizzard have the competitive gaming market. SC2 is one of the most hardcore strategy games on the market at the moment. World of Warcraft is also very big on esports. I feel as if you guys have just accepted that no amount of tweeking to one of your existing hardcore RTS games will match what Blizzard have competitively. As a result, you are just trying to differentiate your product to attract a less competitive market. In the process, however, you are threatening the loss of thousands and thousands of loyal fans.
I'm sorry to say, but my heart literally sank when reading this news. I am extremely disappointed. Especially knowing that this was the microsoft endorsed game. Meaning that 'Game 2.0' will unfortunately not be an 'Age of' game as Microsoft hold exclusive rights over the franchise. This game is only just starting to accept invites for it's beta. It's like waiting for the World Cup to come to Australia. Maybe...one day we might get it. It's something that millions of people would love to see, but it's chances just keep fading away further into the distance.
=D
im so happy right now!
lol
i am so disagree with i cant even start to explain (and yeah i too played aoe 1 back in 1999). So what if they do blizard stuff so what if they do soemthing to get as much fans as they do ? and who says they wont eventualy release aoe 4 or aom 2 or at least w8 to see this and then comment.
such a shame. If you like
such a shame. If you like e-sports, if you like competitive gaming enviroment, no words are needed. You are a casual player, you dont know anythin about LanTourneys, you dont know anything about WCG, you dont know anything about progamers. You will never understand.
I LOVE IT

Mixed Emotions
Well when I heard the news that our beloved AOE franchise is back like a Phoenix.. i was simply overjoyed. I feared that with the way things were moving. ESO would someday soon go down. Looking at the new AOE, it certainly reminds of AOE1 with which I grew up with as a teen so i certainly evokes nostalgia. I believe MS and RE are heading right direction but for an old timer like me and maybe million others out there.. the AOE3 genre of game is what we were looking for..
Like someone said AOM2 or even a rewrite of AOE1 & 2 would be awesome.. waiting for beta tho and will see how it goes..
shut up
i think it looks great
To all the haters!.....
yes it looks cartoony BUT thats gatta be something to look forward to... i never seen a great game with that lovely cartoon feel.. :)
and, to top it off its comming from the greatest gaming minds known to mankind.. so shut up and deal with it you fu-ck face's!
so you and all the other haters can kiss my a@@! your not true fans!
*edit* just watched video preview thing.. and yes it looks kick a@@!!! so once more.. haters go fu-ck yourselves!
A lot of people have problems
A lot of people have problems when it comes to identity theft. We should be aware of the things that are happening around us because we are indeed in a situation that is hard to escape. The mail might be the place to discover all of your pre-approved credit offers, specifically if your bankruptcy has gone through. The idea of purchase now, pay later has many customers in America, although it doesn’t have to. By calling 888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688), United States customers can opt out of pre-approved credit card offers with the three major credit agencies: Equifax, TransUnion and Experian. Anyone hoping for making it impossible for identity theft to work and also anyone who needs to rebuild credit without emergency loans will really need this.
O.O
WTF O.O
I don't understand the people
I don't understand the people who are saying they don't like the game. I could understand "it's not what I was expecting or hoping for, but I'll give it a try", or even "... and I'll pass!". The knee jerk "I HATE IT!!!" is pure emotional response.
For me: I'm really looking forward to seeing what it's going to be like. I really like the AoE franchise, and I also like WoW. Hopefully the two concepts work together!
it is gona be a great game
it is gona be a great game and i cant wate for it
chang is good and in no refrinc to obama
Likes and Dislikes
I Love that the AOE- series still lives of course! the games have helped me to grow up to the nerd I am today, i frequently plays them for fun and during LAN's. What i don't really like is that AoEO will become a MMO/RTS, the AOE-series have always been Only RTS with multiplayer features, what's wrong with that? i love that! and i don't love MMO because they litterally eat up your time!
I am not so very fond of GFWL either, i understand that its a possibility to easily connect to players worldwide and that GFWL offers much as a digital distrubution but i'm yet again more into the classic ways of playing and connecting. I've just signed up for the beta and hopefully i will get a chance to give feedbacks there instead of doing it here =P
Great job robots!
Plz make it...

but with an average of $ 10,000 for the players to championships?
How to explain this
with over 130,000 registered players in Voobly (current location of the game)
Aoc Game 3, with excellent graphics, but nevertheless, economically weak and based only upon the army
