Nice to Meet You
Hey! We haven’t been properly introduced yet. I’m Justin, though I’m better known online by “Six Okay.” I’m the new Community Manager here at Robot Entertainment. I wanted to introduce myself to you, because chances are that you’re part of our community, and I wanted to get to know you a little better.
I’ve been working here at Robot for about four weeks now. A lot of my time has been spent catching up on the many awesome things that the developers here have been working on for just over a year. If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you already know that we’re working hard on two really amazing projects. Looking around the web, I have seen a ton of interest from the avid Age of Empires fans, as well as from other gamers, about what exactly we’re working on. We love that you’re all so interested, but this is the part where I ask for your patience. I wish I could give you all the details right now, but we’ve still got some time before everything’s ready to come out of the oven, so to speak. I did want you to know, though that we have been reading your comments and forum posts, and we’re just as eager to announce things as you are to read about them.
Aside from catching up with all of the project goings-on around here, I’ve been working with some of our team to start thinking about what Robot’s online community is going to look like in the future. We’ve already started a Facebook fan page and a Twitter account. They’re a bit quiet right now, but give them a follow, as they’ll both be a great place to get updates when we really get rolling. Additionally, we’ve been looking over RobotEntertainment.com and finding places where we can flesh out the site a bit more to give you more information about and access to life here at Robot, and ultimately our projects.
Lastly, I’ve seen a ton of requests over the last few days specifically for us to open up a new forum. I’m happy to announce that one of the updates we’re working on for the new site is in fact a new message board. Soon, you’ll be able to come by and speculate to your heart’s content about upcoming Robot projects, interact with our community team and development team members, and generally stake your claim as a hardcore Robot Entertainment fan who was there since the beginning.
In the future, I’ll be posting community info on this blog as often as is reasonable. If there’s anything specifically that you’d like to know about, be sure to let me know in the comments. Thanks again for dropping by, and I hope you’ll stick around for a while. It’s going to be an exciting year here at RobotEntertainment.com.
- J

Great news! looking forward to all the speculation to come on the new message board!
Thanks Justin!
Also looking forward to the new website/announcements.
I already meet you on twitter my username is xMrMariox
Really can't wait till you guy bring out the new forum. I will register once I hear the news. :)
Best of luck to you Justin and the company.
Just a heads up I can detect there will be a lot of disappointment if no info is heard at/by E3 2010. This is going to be a huge year with the Microsoft and Natal announcements, and we would all love to see Robot be part of it.
Good luck!
Good news <3
@RVette83, yea I am disappointed, but I figured I was hoping for too much. My only hope left is that whatever projects Robot Entertainment announces, at least one is for the PC and/or an AoE spiritual successor.
As far the blog goes, thanks Justin for the post, it's always good to hear what you folks are up to. Let us hope the rest of 2010 will be a fruitful one for everybody.
@Grand Poobah I wouldnât give up hope just yet. I think AOE 4 is a very likely title. Reason being Robot is a new studio, and to get your name out in the industry you kind of need to âGo Big or Go Home.â AOE is a franchise that Robot works on with Microsoft on as part of a strategic business alliance. AOE has the name and reputation to generate a lot more attention and ultimately more revenue rather than another unknown/ new franchise, so from a business point of view this make a lot of sense.
As far as when will hear something, Iâll gamble on Microsoftâs standalone E3 conference for Natal and other PC / XBOX 360 titles on 6/13. Robot has said we are close to hearing something and that this is their year. I canât think of a better occasion, and again it goes back to Robotâs partnership with Microsoft, and how they need to be in on the action from a business perspective. Letâs see what happens!
Good luck Robot ?
Let's hope it's a PC, since PC is my only game platform.
Hey Justin, Great to see some more interaction with the community.
Can't wait to hear the news which Robot Entertainment has on offer and best of luck to all the crew at Robot Entertainment. =)
i really hope the projects are something AoE and AoM 2 not an expansion but a reboot for age of mytholygy like better graphics but keep it same time period and stuff
@RVette83, great points, but whatever it is, it won't be called "Age of Empires 4."
Unfortunately, Microsoft owns the rights to that title, and considering they shut Ensemble down, I doubt Robot will try to ask/pay them for permission to use the title.
Robot Entertainment is a completely separate company, it is an LLC, or privately owned company. So it's doubtful they'll publish with Microsoft.
I'm sort of hoping they'll just have Valve publish their game, because Valve is the only game publisher/developer left that still makes a concerted effort at publishing quality PC titles.
It seems you have information that there is a partenership between Microsoft and Robot, but I haven't read that anywhere. Cheers
Justin â Can you help out with this?
Robot does have the ability to go to Microsoft to publish their projects. Furthermore, Robot is contracted with Microsoft to support the current AOE titles. If Microsoft chooses they can give Robot the rights through a contract to make future AOE titles, even though Robot is not a Microsoft owned studio like Ensemble was. Can you confirm if these assumptions are correct on a hypothetical level? Not trying to be difficult, but I would like to get a clear understanding of where Robot stands from a business point of view, and Iâm sure other community members would be appreciative as well.
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the heads up Justin... one thing i always loved was how the ES interacted with the community i hope that continues very goood :) Keep up the good work guys =D cant wait for info
/hugs

I hope it's gonna be a nice decent forum like the others out there, the one from aoe3 is really bad, small, claustrophobic, few options etc.
look for ward to aoe4
I have been reading through the exhibitor list on the E3 list and it does not mention Robot Entertainment partaking in any booths. I am just curious to if Robot Entertainment will be attending E3.
Yoshi -
As of right now, there's no plan to have an official Robot Entertainment presence at this year's E3.
Justin - Can you put this rumor to rest if itâs not true?? The suspense is killing us!
Microsoft MAY be announcing AOE 4 as a Natal launch at E3 in a few weeks, and they have the right to do this since it is their franchise. Robot may or may not be involved in the games development. If you are shouldnât you guys be at E3 to support this announcement, where you have an official presence since youâre involved in the devilment?? If this is not true, which it may very well be, where nothing that Robot is working on will be revealed at E3, can you officially state that âNo info on any of Robotâs projects will be given at E3 this year?â It is somewhere true, where Iâm sure you canât comment, just donât reply to the post.
I seriously hope you guys get to announce your own projects first, and not your developers just because they own the property.
We really hope to hear something soon, itâs been way too long!! Best of luck, you guys are doing an awesome job even though we have idea what your doing!
@RVette83, Justin just confirmed Robot will not have an official presence at E3--or at least "as of now there is no plan."
Don't know what that means, but I wouldn't get excited. As far as Natal goes, MS has long ago given up supporting the PC.
I have to agree. Right now it does not look good at all for a AOE 4 title for the PC. If anything it looks like it will be an xbox 360 title, like halo wars. I personally always played PC games, but recently got a 360, and I have grown to like it.
Here is so info from xbox, that they are expecting robotâs project to be for their platform. Since its coming from xbox this should be pretty solid. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/20381/Robot-Entertainment-Selects-Trinigys...
As far as Microsoft and E3 goes I think we still have a chance unless Justin says otherwise. Right now Microsoft gave 70% of their 3rd party developers (which should include Robot if they are developing games for Microsoft), Natal technology for the 360. Microsoft will be revealing their full lineup of games (about 15) at their pre E3 event. Right now the list of games is being kept very confidential, as we can only speculate. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/107/1075174p1.html
My only thing is it doesnât look like Microsoft is planning on bringing along all the 3rd party developers for the excitement. Whatever the case is I have full confidence in Robot, and they will bring us nothing but the best, whether they are/arenât included or involved in this event.
Best of luck, and Iâm hoping for the best.
Let's see some AoM2!!
Hi Justin!
Ofcourse you can not say anything about the game you are working on, but do you think we'll be glad once you announce it?
Greetings from Sweden!
@Rvette83, Cheers on the information to do with the Vision Engine. The engine looks interesting and from what I have read has quite alot of flexibility in its structure.
@Justin, Thanks for the quick response, Can't wait to hear more information on upcoming projects and announcements Robot Entertainment has instore.
Lastly, If you are allowed to answer this (ofcourse not, heh). What persuaded the company to go with the Vision Engine over other such engines? Such as the Unreal Engine.
Thanks for your time,
Yoshi
Justin - When you got hired what was it like on the first day?
Oooh. A forum? I'm ready for one.
i think its cool how often you guys update, its nice. and i personally would love to see a AOE2/AOM~esque game, obviously those are copy-rited, but i still hold them to be some of the best games ever, and still play from time to time. I was hoping your games would be on the PC, seeing as you guys(well at ES) tended to make rts's, and most rts's i have played for consoles were kind of poor in comparison, at any rate, thank you for being involved with your fans
Hey Justin, were you recently part of 343 Industries doing Top 5 videos on Halo Waypoint?
